CT225 that is 25HP

Okay guys now I am ticked, I bought my CT225 knowing it is 27HP now I see almost 2 years into this that my CT225 27HP really is the older 25 HP model. What can I do? My sales brochure that I was given says 27HP but the engine is clearly stamped 18.x KW aka 25HP. I feel like I got the wool pulled over my eyes. Any thoughts??? Action I can take?

Hmm thats a tough one. I am thinking that had you caught it earlier you may have had some leverage with the dealer since your documentation says 27. But, after two years I wonder how receptive the dealer or anyone else is going to be at listening to you....

It does suck though if you were under the impression it was 27. Sorry not much advice here, more just thinking out loud.....

I looked at all the invoices etc and they just say CT225, never says 27HP anywhere, it is still under warranty and I do still have payments on it and WI has a strong lemon law. Guess I have to look at the old emails and see if they said anything about 27HP. I'm getting more ticked by the minute

I kinda think after this long, It's been doing the job. Just let it go. The dealership may not have even known. If they gave you full purchase price credit on a new one(seems fair), what would you do. A new one would still cost several thousand dollars.

I'm kinda remembering that the reason the 25 was bumped upto 27 was to compensate for the stricter (power sucking) emission standards. I'm thinking there's not much actual power differential between the two.

let it go come one, you bought your wife a diamond ring and you go to get it appraised later to find out its cubic zirconia...let it go? yeah right I got sold a bill of goods and not what I thought I was getting, plus I have been one of the ones complaining about the power problem too, might explain why now

TBDonnelly is right, the hp was boosted due to emissions changes. I doubt there is very much difference, if any at all, between the two. I understand you didn't get what you thought you were getting. It's an anoyance, for sure. Notwithstanding the potential RV problem that may exist, life is too short to spend a lot of energy on what is really a specification nuance. You've been using it for a couple of years now. So, it must be mostly effective. Right? If you are not happy with the tractor, sell it or trade it in. If you are, use it and enjoy.

OTH, if there are a bunch of you that got 25 hp thinking you were getting 27 hp, get together, contact a lawyer and file a class action suit. Then the lawyers will get all the money and the rest of us will have to pay higher prices next time to compensate for the manufacturer's losses. And you'll get a check for $27.27 as your compensation. Just the way it is.

This is not to say that you shouldn't fight them over the RV issue. Since not everyone is experiencing this phenomenon, I think there might be something to that one. And, I'd be very surprised if the RV is supposed to be different across the 225/230/235 tractors.

If I were you, nothing would make things right except getting a new 27 hp tractor. I am pretty sure they are not going to do that after you have used the tractor for this long. You can sell the tractor. You probably got it at the fire sale price. You might just make money, but you won't have a tractor.

Just talked to the dealer, service manager tells me the tractor shipping today is 25HP, CT225 ie frame size 2 25 HP CT 230 30 HP get the gist...I ask if he is sure yup he is positive I ask again if he is sure yup, I tell him to check the engine of the unit on the floor for sale....oops (oh yeah I see they changed it mid stream now s/n XXX and later) I call the sales man, ask how many HP my tractor is 27 HP, are you sure yes 27HP Gross...then I get on the phone, clueless about the 25HP thing. I AM BOILING! Salesman agrees this is an issue and will see what he can do...asks me what I want, I tell him I want what I thought I was getting...not holding my breath

Not to be too much of a contrarian here, but there was plenty of discussion about this on TBN when this transition was being made. One of the big reason people were getting th 225 for such a cheap price was because Bobcat was trying to move inventory to make room for the new tractors that met the new emission standards. I think 2 years into it, it's a moot point. I don't remember the time line, but I'd say they didn't start that transition until about 15 months ago, so if it has been almost 2 years, then I'm thinking you got what they were selling at the time and the transition had not even started yet.

Sorry if I opened up a can of worms in bringing up this 25hp issue. It's just that since the Bobcat salesman called me yesterday asking what I meant on my response form in being disappointed with the tractor being 25 vs 27, I'm sure he didn't know and I suspect they are all trying to figure out just how many people they sold tractors to they thought was a 27 but really a 25. If the emission controls make the difference negligible, I would really like to find out if the RV could be adjusted/ tested to give the tractor more guts.

FYI the horsepower ratings should be net. The 25hp was revised to meet the emission requirements but a 27hp net engine was the result, even with the "emission sucking" equipement. The same is true for the Kioti CK20 vs CK20s, and CT 120 vs CT 122 (20hp net vs 22hp net).

The updated tractors are more (albeit slightly) powerful.

I had 30 hours on my 25HP unit when my dealer/salesman gave me a new 27HP tractor. The salesman was honest and agreed that we had been discussing a 27HP tractor when I purchased (I bought after the new ones were out and I knew I wanted the 27HP model) but later I realized that it was not.

It doesn't hurt to ask and I don't blame you. However, if they aren't up to making it right, you just have to take your medicine and realize you have a good tractor at a great price regardless of what the engine plate says. Good luck.

For what its worth, I think I would much rather have the last tractor @ 25 hp, than the first one with 27 and a whole bunch of brand new, relatively untested emission control stuff.

The repair cost you save over the years will be good for your bank account.

Now, if you can get them to make some kind of adjustment, that would be awesome, but if you can't it could have been a lot worse.

well according to your serial number break downI have ABFJ11260, so I must have the 259th, 225 off the line with the 27Hp engine. Guess thats why i dont notice the power issue. But either way im happy with the smokin deal i got, and this tractor beats the snot out of my old Kubota B7100.

I ended up saving $800 bucks to take the 25 over the 27. I'm still not happy about being mis-informed, but I decided to just settle for what I got. I mean you have to admit $11k for a brand new tractor with all the bells and whistles that this one has is pretty darn good. Sure It lacks in power (not thrilled with that either). But the way i see it you get what you pay for. Yeah having this 25 hp (underpowered) tractor sucks, but it beats the heck out of paying $18-19k for a comperable J.D., new holland or kabota. So in my oppinion, take the deal and be happy with what you got, or, Sell it and go get another brand.

Good luck getting bobcat to switch. I was in the same boat, my first 225 was a 25hp model and it suffered from the no power issue as well. I had to go up the chain to the regional manager to get my tractor swapped. I didnt get a new 227 either. I was offered a 27hp model w/60 hours on it (dealer lot demo) It was a take it or leave it offer, I took it. My cat had 51 hrs on it at the time. No one knew (or would admit to knowing) there was a hp difference. My local dealer was a little embarrased about the whole thing and threw in a landscape rake and a set of filters with the trade. I also got the first service done since the tractor had over 50 hrs. The whole swap took 6 weeks. Sorry I cant tell you which tractor is better, I believe my first 225 was a lemon, It had no power and was burning over 1 gal/hr. The loader was covered w/soot on the left and the cruise didnt work. I was glad to see it go. the new 225 runs like a champ and sips the diesel.

what a bargain, we will take your CT225 and give you what you own on trade (ie 8000), then we will sell you a new larger tractor and throw in the loader and zero finance for you! Yeah, like I wanted to start over from scratch. A new CT227 is over 20K like I have mine setup, I was looking forward to actually owning mine not starting over on payments, oh an you can pick any attachment instead at my cost.....

just venting here, this stinks! Do I even bother calling BC corporate?
