Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I don't want to ask a dumb question but have you checked the hydro oil level? perhaps they changed the filter and forgot to add the oil. I once drained the engine oil from my daughter's Fiero, got sidetracked by something else, and never put the new oil in. She made it up the streeet and a block down the road before the engine froze. Luckily I was able to free it up and it ran fine for 2 years before a bearing or something went requiring an engine replacement. I never knew for sure why it failed but I strongly suspect the oil fiasco had something to do with it.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

Talked to shop and they said its not the filter. Well I had them come to the house and showed them that the fram filter said oil filter. Had them replace it with a Cub and guess what MOWER NOW WORKS FINE. I ran the mower for 2 hours no problems at all. Also come to find out they never replaced the trans fluid. So their coming back to house to replace fluid and another new filter. Thanks for the help.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

Glad you got it going, and it's good to hear the dealer is making it right. I'm a little confused as to how the filter would cause such a problem, but I guess it doesn't really matter right now. At least you are back up and running /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

If you use a different type filter you will change the fluid flow. Most likely it probably stopped the fluid which in turn shutdown the transmission.

This is why Cub recommends our filters. We know they work!

But you also get what you pay for.

Glad you got the beast running again!

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I would still suspect that it was caused by the drained fluid not being replaced rather than the filter. Most filters are basically the same except for a small variation in bypass pressure which shouldn't really come into play unless the filter was clogged.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I would also suspect a low oil condition as the cause. From what I've found, hydraulic rated filters are different from oil only filters. Hydraulic filters typically dont have a bypass valve. It's built into the hydraulic pump itself. Reason being is to not push junk from the dirty side of the filter element into the system (if a filter bypass was to open). The can/outer shell on a hyd filter is thicker and the gaskets are usually larger/thicker to accommodate for pressure spikes, and the media is usually a micro-glass. The only filters i've seen that are rated for both hyd and lube (pretty much across the board) are donaldson filters. I highly doubt running an engine oil filter on our cubs would make any difference at all, in fact we have Bob B. to thank for a real world test! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

mech that came up to replace filter did say that they have never seen this before. Says that filter could of been faulty. But it did say oil filter and the lawn mower did not move. Replacing the filter fixed the problem. Also cub is running smooth now. Nothing like before. Ive had the mower since 1996 and never nothing wrong. Im glad it was the filter. Now if I could find another deck. Mines getting old and beat. Anyone know how much they run new or does anyone have a used one. Thanks again for the help.

Re: cub (2135) doesn\'t move forward or reverse

I would look for a good used one. I paid over $400 for just the new shell for a 44A deck back in 1995. Mine was badly rusted. If yours isn't rusted through you could get it sand blasted and painted which would be much cheaper.
