I have had my Cub 7235 for 3 years - bought used with 200 hrs, now have 490 hours. It has a FEL and rear mower. I have had no major problems. Have serviced according to manual. The front drive will not disengage recently. The lever moves up or down, but is not doing anything. Tractor seems to be running fine in all ranges - no strange or different noises. Any ideas?

Jack the front end up tp see if it really is engaged. From there you will need a manual to find the problem. It sounds like a pin sheared or lever broke inside that engages the MFD.

I'd take a quick look up under the lever as it goes down through the floor area. It may have just come disconnected or something to where it hooks. Most of those rods and such are somewhat exposed and you can probably seen something. My 7234 has always gone in and out stiffer than I would like but it may be normal. It hasn't failed me yet.

Thanks, I did raise the front end. I finally got it to disengange by chance when I was climbing a steep slippery hill. I think that something inside the trans case is wore or the mechanism inside is not fully disengaging. It pops back in to 4wd easy. I think I need to invest in a good repair manual to see how that lever works and if there are any obviuous adjustments that can be made.

You can buy the manual direct from MTD. Email me at jhrobert@charter.net. I'll take a picture of it and email it back. I have the manual that covers your tractor.

I have a 7234 Cub and it does the same thing. Been "stuck" in 4 wheel drive for a couple of years now. Doesn't seem to hurt anything except ease of turning and since im never on concrete or pavement I think it will be ok. Would like access to a manual to be able to fix the issue. (whatever it is)

I wish I could help you out. I sold my tractor and the manuals went with it. It is not good to keep the 4wd engaged all the time. You will wear out the front driveshaft and possibly the drive splines for it.
