- 1969 Cub Cadet 107... reengined with 12HP K301
Hello, I recently saved a 1969 Cub 107 from certain death. The previous owner basically abused thsi poor tractor after it was given to him by his father... never cheanged the tranny fluid of filter, left it rust up, rolled it off the back of a pickup, drilled holes all through the hood to mount a radio to it, replaced the original fenders with the wrong style of fenders... and the last i'll mention... rebored the 10HP engine to a 14HP and blew it apart after only a few hours.
The sad thing was... that's only the tip of the iceburg.... There was more damage to it that i'm not gonna list.
Essentially i recieved this tractor in April from my neighbor who in turn recieved it from the previous owner that damaged the tractor so bad. My neighbor used to work for a Cub Cadet dealer and knew how to fix the tractor... however, he already has two 782's and a third lawn tractor... so he had no use for the 107.
One day in april after he was cleaning out his garage he drug that old 107 out of the garage and had it sitting there. I happened to walk over to see what was up like i always do... he's kinda like extended family anymore. He and his son (who's 34) both looked at me and asked if i wanted it. My neighbor said if i don't take it it will probably go to the scrapyard as he no longer is capable of doing the hard work of rebuilding it and his son doesn't have the space or time to do so. So after some thinking i brought the old Craftmans we have over with the big cart(excellent tractor... only good craftsman i've ever seen) and we pushed the Cub up into it with the 782's blade and chained it down. In turn dragging it into the garage and nearly taking out a wall when 850lbs of tractor rolled wildly off that cart. However... she was home.
We pushed the tractor into the bay right behind the old craftman that towed it over. and she sat there for awhile while i was at college... just patiently waiting for it's time to come.
I started by pressure washing that whole tractor down, removing the old engine and checking linkages and etc. My neighbor then in turn helped me rebuild the new engine for it... in this case a 12hp K301. Or rather... i helped him rebuild it to be exact. After the engine was finished I bolted it up, straightened out the bent fenders that were rolled off the pickup and fired it up... and wow, it ran, and was deafening with that straight pipe and flapper cap in it.
Next up i totally dissasembled the tractor and sandblasted it, primed it, and painted it with fresh pain. Put a new seat on her, worked on the tranny linkage some, fixed the holes in the hood, and coated my toolbox with rubber coating.
I found an original 42inch triangle style deck in good condition for it for 125 bucks plus a cradle, i then bought a QA36u1111 with a bad gearbox for 35... then a QA36A with another bad gearbox for 100 bucks.... then got a 3rd gearbox for nothing from the same guy that sold me the blowers.... My neaighbor helped me sort out the gearbox's and i have one blower running great right now, and the second is close behind... soon to be painted. I found a blade for this tractor too and i even made a new hitch to attach the lawnvac i built to it(lawnvac is immpressive... looks professional).
Now... She's in marvelous shape, and the 107 looks totally different from what it did when i got it... all for 600 bucks i redid it. It's my pride and joy... albeit i leave for the real work and work in a few months so i doubt i'll see it in action much, but it's my baby. Everyone who has seen it before and after can't believe it's the same machine... it actually looks nearly new now. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Now with that blower on this tractor... and no spring assist the manual lift is fun to pick up. I personally don't have a problem with it... i'm 22 and athletic, but my dad who's 59 and has had a should reconstructed... it's a bit iffy. I used to have a hydraulic pump meant for this tractor but got rid of it abotu 3 yrs before i got the 107... doh! So now i've been thinking up some new ideas.
Would it be possible to switch the pump, or even the whole transmission (i'd prefer to jsut change the pump) from a 129 with hydraulic lift over to my 107... and in turn retrofit the 129's hydraulic lines, spools, and lift cylinder onto my 107?
I believe it is possible... i've been thinking this over for awhile now and i believe i can do it... but i'd like to ask folks who really know what they are talking about.
I essentially want to lift the hydraulic pump/transmission, hydraulic lines, control spool, and hydraulic ram from the 129 and refit it to the 107 i got.
Is it possible? will the transmission's or the hydraulic pumps from the transmissions interchange? I believe they do... but i would love some insight from the knowledgeable people here.
Thank you for any help you can provide me. I'll try to post some pics of the 107 when i get everything the way i want it... headlights are next... if i can find the headlight holder anywhere. Have a good day and take it easy. Cheers. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
