I'm not a Briggs expert by any means, but most Briggs Magnetron ignitions are located up by the engine's flywheel, and use a magentic induction coil to generate the spark. (Its a point-less magneto.) I'm fairly sure the module thing you see on the side of the engine is the regulator/rectifier for the battery charging system. Magnetron is a simple and not an expensive item to service, but you'll want a manual to work on it or have a pro work on it, I remember the gap setting for the coil is critical. You could aslo have a fault on the ignition switch itself, I think the ignition switch on the magnetron engines grounds out the system to stop the engine. That was the extent of my Briggs know-how and its probably dated LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Justa thought but are you sure the blade safety switch is made.If it thinks the blade is turned on it'll crank but will not have ignition,

I"m not familiar with the Briggs engine on your tractor but I know the Kohler 14hp single cyl had ignition points mounted under a small cover on the side of the engine. The points could burn, wear down to no gap or break, any of which would prevent getting a spark. I agree that the module you found is probably the voltage regulator for the charging circuit.

An occasional period, capitilization and proof-reading sure would help others help you.
I have no idea what you wrote.

Sorry for the typing errors. I'm an Auto Technician by trade not an English Professor or a Typist. I look at it this way if you couldn't figure out what the miss typed words were then you probably couldn't answer my question in the first place.

Thanks again for every ones help and again I'm sorry about the typing I didn't want anyone to hurt themselves trying to figure out what it said.

No prob my way, used to work with many Germans and had to de-cipher lots of things, not too many people on tractor forums are concerned with grammar myself included.

Once you pull the fan shroud off the Briggs, as an auto tech you'll figure it out quickly. The no-spark can be from the safety switch(es) as others said. I rarely see coils go completely dead though, will often give yellow spark if weak. I do think there is also a condenser on the Briggs Magnetron also that can short out giving weak or no spark. The trick with Magnetron is if you pull the coil off a long feeler gauge is placed between the flywheel magnet and coil to get the right gap. It really is a very simple ignition system.

I got it running I disconnected the ground from the engine and it started so I traced the yellow wire back to the ignition switch, ohm checked the switch and cleaned the contacts now everything works fine but I really didn't find anything wrong this maybe an intermittent problem, I didn't see any external switch under the tractor for the blade safety, is this safety part of the electric PTO or part of the PTO on/off switch on the dash? I have a feeling that it isn't fixed and that's the only switch left the seat switch is ok. Until I find some info like a wiring diagram for this model I'm going to treat it like a sore dick and won't f**k with it.
