Yet some more problems with My 1975 Cub Cadet 1250. Its burning oil pretty bad, I mow two acres and that burns almost all of the oil out of it. How hard will that be to fix?

Thanks for any help!

Valve guides bad; piston ring seized ; broken piston ring, scared cylinder, out of round cylinder.- Probably needs rebuilt. Compression test will tell you or pull the head off and take a look.

If you didn't own it since new it might be hard to tell if it has been rebuilt before as they will only handle so many times before the cam will have to much tolerance and knock.
You might look at a new complete engine.

It actually has been rebuilt before. We had it done oh... 8 or 9 years ago now.
It runs just fine other then the burning oil. Its performance isn't affected at all.
People I have talked to have told me that it is most likely a boken piston ring

It is a Kohlor 12HP K301AQS

If cylinder wall is okay; hone it and put in new rings.

Some of them have been rebuilt numerous times. Mine has been bored to the point that it's approaching the bore of the 14 HP.

imo you should get it fixed...it'll out last any new tractor you buy today.

Back in the bronze age I had a Wheel horse that was so bad burning oil that I only poured in used oil from a friend of mine that worked in a garage...but it ran fine except for a cloud of smoke.

Auto parts houses sell a product called "No Smoke" (or something like that) that's made to seal rings on automotive engines - it has the consistency of maple syrup - there is no reason you can't use it in your lawn mower... just adjust the amount accordingly - if it's intended for 8-cylinder engines use use 1/4 of a can in your 2-cylinder engine.

I have a 1-cylinder engine. So that would be 1/8 of a can right?

Actually I don't think there is an amount listed on the can - I think it says to just add as much as you need to stop the oil consumption... so I would start with 1/8 of a can and work up from there... it's not rocket science so a little one way or the other won't hurt anything.
