Cub Cadet 1604 No Spark

I went out and started my cub 1604 (Briggs & Stratton 16hp) it ran fine, then when I went to restart it later it did not start and I pulled the spark plug off and I saw that I was not getting a spark.
I replaced my voltage regulator last year, as I was getting an intermittent starting issue last year and that took care of it. Could it be that again?
If someone could point me in a systematic system of troubleshooting this problem I would be appreciative.

I just had the same issue with a smaller motor:

Condenser sucked in some moisture. ACE hardware points & condenser put me back in business for $7.00

I was surprized at how easily the flywheel came off to get at these parts. The very knowledgable gal behind the counter also suggested that these motors sometimes shear the crankshaft key so that it gets out of time (magneto to points timing). That's another suggestion. A new key comes with the points kit....
