cub cadet 1864 rear axle seal replace.

have a 1864 cub cadet. trying to get axle out to replace seal. i know i have to take a retaining ring off to remove axle. took rear plate off of rear end housing where you can see ring and pinion gears. can't even see the gears on end of axle to take off retaining ring. can anyone help me out on this? thanks.

There should be a window into the ring gear assembly in order to remove the retaining E clip for the axle.
