cub cadet 2146 PTO won\'t release

pto clutch won't disengage even with wires unhooked - so, have to start unit with pto engaged. Any ideas???

You must have a mechanical bind. First I would check the clearance between the clutch disc and hub at three places around the clutch. You should have at least .020 inch gap. There are springloaded adjusting screws which can be backed out to increase the gap. The other possibility is the disc has rusted or stuck on the spline and will have to be removed and cleaned up. Put a light coat of lubriplate on the spline.
