It's nothing but color and brand name marketing that makes people buy a Cub or JD from a box store. The most important question that should be asked to the salesperson when making a major purchase such as a lawn tractor should be, "Will you service this machine for me here after I buy it?"
In the case of the box stores, the answer will be, "no."
It really shouldn't be looked at any differently than buying a new car. Hopefully, one would not buy a new car from a dealership that does not have a service department.
