I've got my honda engine installed and running but i need to have a hot wire going to the new engine when the key is in the on position and the start position currently its hot when in the on position the engine loses spark when in the start position

I think the later cubs like a 1811 with the magnum engine are hot in both positions does anyone know if i could use a key switch from a 1811

I've tried to find a hot when in the start position but everything goes dead even the lights when the key is in the start position but the starter still rolls over

I had this problem too. The hot wire that goes to the hour meter remains on in both the start and run positions. Jumper this to the hot wire on the Honda's power connector, and you should be good to go. You will also need working headlights in place, they serve as a ballast when the key is turned off to allow the engine to stop. It sounds nutty, but works perfectly. Without them, the inertia from the flywheel allows the alternator to generate power for the ignition and the engine will just keep running.

I have a red wire and a purple wire from the new engine the red wire has to stay hot and connects to the gray wire thats in place from the old engine and the purple wire connects to the red wire that also went to the old engine this purple wire from the new engine is what makes the battery charge?? correct me if i'm wrong I'm going to double check but I don't think my hour meter stays hot either the only wire that is hot in the start position is the selinoid wire when i jump the selinoid wire to the wire that needs to be hot the wire back feeds and makes the seliniod kick in i'm begining to wonder if i have a gound problem the lights are bright as can be though thanks for the help

my head lights are working but do you have to turn them on to make the engine stop or does it do it automatically thanks again
