Cub Cadet Series 2000 Not Starting! Help!

I recently did some yard work with my Cub Cadet 2000 series. It had been working great all day. I decided to move some branches with a cart hooked onto the back of it. It moved the branches with no problem. When I got back on the tractor to start it, well it started half way and died on me. Now all it does is click when I turn the key. I changed all the fuses... I tryed to jump the battery... I tested the battery... The battery is okay. I checked the gas and oil... It has both... So I am at a loss to what the problem could be. If you have any ideas on what to do please post. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a safety switch issue. PTO, brake or seat switch. Reseat the PTO switch, make sure you have your foot all the way on the brake and make sure your butt is planted in the seat. If all that is okay, check for a blown fuse due to burnt headlamp wiring, or burnt/broken PTO wiring.

Can you give any tips on how to go about doing this? Where would the switch be located? What would it look like? How would I reset it? Thanks for all your help! It's appreciated!

There are several switches. You can trace wiring to the spring loaded 'push' switches, or climb under and follow where the brake linkage and reverse pedal linkage actuate their respective switches. Make sure they are plugged in and function. Check for blown fuses and broken wires.

ANother possibility is a problem with the starter. You can try jumpering from the ppositive battery terminal to the solenoid terminal to see if the starter runs.

It is either the starter, a weak battery or a locked up engine.

The most likely would be a weak battery. If it is weak, then you need to determine if the battery is bad or the alternator is not putting out.

Try using jumper cables. If it starts with jumper cables then the problem is a weak battery. If this is the problem. Start it and put a DC voltmeter across the battery. With the engine running you should read at least 13 volts. If it is 12 volts or near abouts then the alternator is not working. If it is 13 volts or more with engine running, then the battery is probably going bad.

My 2544 still gives the click of an energizing relay when you turn the iginition on, safety switches satisfied or not. Either way.. It looks like this guy either gave up of solved his problem /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

My Cub 2180 did a similar thing. I cut my 1/2 acre yard, turned it off, tried to start it a few minutes later and it just clicked. After a couple tries, it stopped clicking. I took it to the dealer, the regulator(I believe) was shot and so was my battery.

Apparently, the regulator stopped charging the battery and I wound up ruining a cell in the battery, it wouldn't hold a charge. It was a warranty thing, first problem I've ever had, but it runs great now.

wow1that the same thing that has happend to me! On the start just heard clicking,so i jumped started my tractor ran for 90 min. started on it's own for the next couple of days .Now it's dead.I forgot to check the water level in my battery this year! so i'm going to by a $20 battery on wed. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
