Can a dealer or someone in the know confirm or deny that MTD will be putting a Cub by MTD 1000 series lawn tractor in Wal-Mart stores? The thinking is the better known Cub Cadet (by MTD) brand may sell better than other MTD brands, such as Yard-Man, that have been sold at Wal-Mart in recent years.

Wouldn't be a bad strategy for Wal-Mart to sell more lawn tractors. The Cub 1000 series are essentially the same as the Yard Machines brand, Yard-Man brand, White brand, Bolens brand, low end Troybilts just different colored hoods and body panels and a better known brand.

If true, I wonder if it would be good for the Cub by MTD brand to be sold at Wal-Mart?

Haven't heard anything about it, but I think it would be a great way to boost sales for them.

It seems strange this would be a rumor at the end of March. All the big box stores I've seen already have tons of LT's and GT's displayed for the season. I believe if CC was going to be selling tractors at wally world this year it would already be a well known fact.

It makes absolutely no sense why MTD would start to push 1000 series cubs at wal mart. Several reasons:

1. MTD already has several lines of tractors they sell at wal mart, why introduce another?
2. wal mart buyers would be almost purely price point shoppers, why would they send a premium line into a market that would be purely price driven?
3. Home depot would have a fit
4. cub dealers would have a fit

Hard, is this really something you heard, or is this just a rumor you would like to get started?
Or even more likely, did you think your thread would be less likely to get deleted if you phrased it like a question? (i.e. Gosh, I heard cub cadets are pieces of junk, has anybody else heard that?)
Your disdain for anything yellow and white is well known.

Hi Mike...I don't disdain Cub Cadet. I owned two, expensive, Cub Cadet, diesel, 4wd SCUTS. I would consider buying Cub again if Yanmar, does indeed, take over the manufacturing of them. They Cub's I had, had great mowing decks and the bar tires were excellent. If true, the rumor regarding Cub's in Wal-Mart would give MTD the opportunity to grow the Cub brand while giving Wal-Mart a much better known brand to sell. The Cub 1000 Series would fit Wal-Mart perfectly. MTD may be working on a $899 Cub 1000 Series for Wal-Mart now, for next season. They don't have that far to go to move down in price points a few dollars. Cub dealers would benefit by all the service work they would get, not to mention parts sales. Looks like it could be a win-win for everybody concerned.:D

Has the transition been enjoyable from your Cub by MTD 5252 gas SCUT to a John Deere? You did buy a JD, didn't you Mike? Take care and good luck with your new tractor.

The least expensive Cub Cadet LT is the LT1040 at $1599.00, and it contains quite a few features not found on MTD's cheaper Yard Man and Bolens LT's. $1599 is likely out of the price range the average Wal-Mart buyer expects to spend on a LT. It is also a $100 higher list price than JD's cheapest LT, the LA100 that lists for $1499.00. You'd see Deere at Wally as quickly as Cub Cadet if this rumor has founding. Deere actually used to make a Yard-Man comparable called the Sabre, and they found they couldn't compete in the bargain market with MTD and Craftsman. -Fordlords-

The Yanmar/Cub is not a rumor. That's a done deal. I think that will be great for Cub, but I am not sure what Deere is going to say about the whole thing. :)

If anything goes wrong with your green machine, will you jump at the chance to promote the misfortune? Time will tell I suppose - however I truly enjoy your insincerity towards Cubs success in the last few threads.
I have definitely changed my perspective regarding your issues with Cub - ;)

It's been well known for a long time that MTD has asked Yanmar to build them a top quality CUT. The Rumor on this thread is the one where Cub by MTD may put a value priced lawn tractor in Wal-Mart to boost Wal-Mart's lawn tractor sales because the Cub by MTD brand is much better known to the value customer than the Yard-Man by MTD brand.:)

I hope this works out well for Wal-Mart and Cub by MTD. It may work out to be a very good business relationship.

Hard,I think it's time to stop referring to Cub Cadet as your"Cub Cadet by MTD" reference. That nomenclature, along with the 3 blades of grass symbol,is no longer used by the manufacturer. It is Cub Cadet, period! Just because you have a grudge with them is no reason to keep ripping on them here. Yeah, you had some tough luck, but hey,it does happen sometimes. Usually there is more to it than we know. So stop rippin' on our favorite brand now,I'm sure the green guys would enjoy your wisdom.
