Cuc Cadet 2145 keeps dying

My son's 2145 (14 HP Onan)runs great for a while then starts missing and then dies. less than 300 hrs on it. Sometimes it does it within a few minets from start up.sometimes it'll run for 20-30 minets.It may start right back up or it wont start for a while.
I took carb apart,checked bowl, a little bit of dirt but not much Blew out all holes and tubes) .also took apart fuel pump, all valves and diaphram seem to be good.
I don't think it has a strong spark but I never checked it before,maybe it's always been like that. I drained all the fuel out,no water or dirt,even tried leaving the gas cap loose in case it wasn't breathing but it still died.
Any Ideas??

Check the gap on the magneto to the flywheel

I had one that did that and it was the coil.

I had the same issue with my old Ford 3000. Went through the entire electrical system and rebuilt carb, no change. Ended up being a clogged petcock. Lesson learned, check simple things first.

Anyone have any idea as to what the coil should measure? The plug wire to ground is 10.52 ohm. I will need to remove the mtr. to get to the coil. to check any more of it.
I am hopeing for simple but so far NG.

Well it seems all of a sudden the Blade cut out in Reverse had started working.(I hasn't worked in years) That seemed to be when the engine was dying..Removed the bar that hits the switch and so far it has not quit..(Makes no snese to me but??)

Had the same type problem on a Kohler Cammand several years ago. To finally figure it out, I kept a can of carb cleaner with me and when it started cutting out I'd spray a dab in the carb...That told me it was starving for fuel. Then I took the fuel pump off to find the manual pump arm that operates off the rocker arm of the Left cylender valves was broken...couldn't find an OEM Pump so I put an Auto electric pump on...the thing is still going strong...works better with the electric pump than the OEM! Just something to check...see if you are getting enough fuel pressure to the carb under load....Good Luck!

Sounds like the switch for the reverse cut out may be defective. You may want to check all safty switches to make sure they are all working properly. check wires for bad areas; wear, cuts, corroded connectors, etc. Seat switch, pto switch, clutch switch (if it has one), etc.
