Culipactor - what does it weigh?

I am going to drive to my parents house to visit (560miles) and I want to bring this back. It belonged to my grandfather and I'm looking forward to restoring it and using it for my food plots.

I'd like to put it into my half ton Toyota Tundra (payload of up to 1900 lbs). The question is - I have no idea how much this thing weighs. If it's more than 1500 lbs, I'll probably drag my trailer the distance but it would be empty all the way there.

What's your educated guess on the weight of this culipactor?

It is 7 feet wide

Just put it in the bed of the pickup and go. I don't know the exact weight but I have one exactly like it and that is what I would do.

Do you have a way to load it in the bed? My guess, it's heavy. I would drag it on a trailer with a come-a-long...

I have access to a neighbor's big JD to lift it into the back of my truck. What I'm trying to avoid is trailering my empty trailer for 560 miles.

I understand about not wasting gas these days. I don't have an exact weight but a single set could be 800 lbs. Leinbach Machinery Catalog

I would think your truck should handle it.

Hi Keving,

I have an identical cultipacker. If memory serves, it is a Dunham. My guess on weight is 1000 - 1100 #'s. I used a JD 70a loader on a 955 JD compact tractor to lift it. I think the loader is rated around 950 #'s - it barely lifted the cultipacker high enough to pull the trailer out from under it. If you have the lifting capacity, I would leave the wagon at home and save $ and wear and tear too. Good Luck!

I cut two pieces of railroad track to fit in the 'basket' on top to add weight. I use one of my forktrucks to move it with the added weight. I think without the weight it only weighed just over 1000 pounds. Here are a few pictures to see if it matches yours.

I added a regular trailer hitch to the front of it with a 2" ball. Since the restore I've probably used it 60 hours or more. It works fantastic and I no longer even use my pulverizer/gill. If the area is really rough, I just plow the area, till it with my 7' rototiller, and then run the cultipacker over it; pulling it either with my RTV1100 or Suzuki King Quad 700. I then cover the area with grass seed, fertilizer and straw. By the time it rains enough for the seed to come up the ridges left by the cultipacker have 'melted' flat and covered the seed perfectly and I'm left with a nice smooth lawn.

I bought a 7 ft. double roller like this and loaded it in a Nissan Frontier pickup truck. I had no problem. I did not have ratchet straps, so I used rope to tie it down and put a board on each side to keep the wheels from rolling around. I also put a piece of plywood down to protect the bedliner. The weight is going to be less than 1200 lbs.
