I have been keeping an eye out for a cultipacker about 6 foot wide (no less) in order to cover the wheel width of a Ford model 2000 gas engine which is 36 HP. Up until now I had not given what horsepower is needed to pull a cultipacker since I am looking at it as a rolling load and not to much power would be needed tp pull it. I have a 1 1/4 food plot. So-- what is the max weight I should pull with this tractor and typically what width would that be?

Thanks- Oldstuff

I forgot to mention, since I know about what most 6 foot wides weigh I am assuming I would get a pull model rather than a 3 pt lift mode.

I easily pulled a double 12 footer (that's like a dually). This had weight boxes on it for which I stacked concrete blocks for extra down force. No problem with my 36hp 1070 in 4WD. It gets interesting if you get it out on a paved road or concrete driveway. They like to roll once they get started. Make sure your brakes are in good working order.

I was using it to pack down a freshly seeded alphalfa field. I used my 6' rototiller to 'plow' it up and borrowed a JD grain drill to plant it. The tiller took all day to do a 5 acre field. Multiple passes.

Very little hp is needed on a cultipacker. My little 10hp Farmall Cub easily handles my 8-footer. If I had any hills I might worry a bit about that heavy cultipacker behind that little tractor but my farm is as flat as a pancake.

I pulled a 12 footer last fall with my 35 HP Deere 4400. It did take a few HP the first time over the freshly tilled seedbed, but no problems at all.

Pull type, up to 10 ft would be reasonable. We have about 30 rebuilt packers on hand today, if you want to see pictures, fire me a email at sweet@scrtc.com Ken Sweet
