Yeah, nexxt he's goin to attack my spelln!!! below the belch there man...

All I need is for anyone to turn me in to the Spelling Police! Never was my strong suit, and nowdays with spellcheck, I don't even pay ANY attention to it. Between SpellCheck and my wife, there's virtually no chance of me making an un-noticed mistake.

Wow, a little insecure are we? Bringing up the whole Brokeback thing. Disc for a suppository??? Now THAT'S the WRONG tool, I have a PHD for that man. Shucks!

A wise man once told me to listen to the subliminal thoughts in every message. You can tell a great deal about a man by the manner in which he speaks. So what's all this "Brokeback" and "suppository" stuff supposed to mean Skervy?

Just trying to understand the REAL Skervy,

Bill

Folks:

Not having heard from Skerby with regard to the questions I presented leads me to believe that the answer to the first question is - no, I (Skerby) have never tried to "overseed" with a "quality overseeder" or any other piece of equipment.

What do you think?

I kinda think he DID. He reminds me of a typical "one hit wonder" where he did a project, it turned out better than he expected, so now he's impressed with what he THINKS he knows.

So what your saying is that I can disk behind the fields I plowed up this fall, add vertliser to what ever the soil test come back as. Disk again and brodcast clover, timothy, and oats. After that pull a spring tooth drag across it, and it should turn out pretty good? Or should I use a bed spring.:)???

Just my opinion, for whatever it's worth, but a spring tooth harrow AFTER seeding will bury your seed too deep I'd think. I PREFER a cultipacker. You want to drag it VERY lightly if at all.

The true way to learn... is learn from those that have done it ... or learn from your mistakes.

Enough of the foolishness, if someone has an agenda they need to address it someplace else. I come to this site for information about tractors and the things that we do with them.

If you broadcast seed over disk'ed land use a light drag to cover them, I use a spike tooth drag that I purchased from Farnam years ago. I get good stands of clover and winter grasses using this method.

I have never had to use a spike tooth drag. We use to use a drag that we made. It was made by connecting a few wooden pallets and attatching a chain link fence on the bottom of the pallets.

Thereafter, we started to plow, disc, cultipack, broadcast seed, and cultipack versus plow, disc, broadcast and drag.

In our experience with clover and alfalfa (and probably even with cereal grains) we got better germination without dragging. I think the key word in dragging is "light". A little bit of cover goes a longgggggggggggg way.

P.S. I don't think anyone is trying to be foolish, just trying to let Sedmond know that our recommendations with regard to using a harrow disc to lightly break up the topsoil prior to broadcasting seed will work.
