Having just got my first compact,I am now looking for implements for it,yesterday I found a set of cultivators for it,actually I found 3 sets. they remind me of a set of field cultivators, can you use these to break up the top soil or are they for ground that has already been tilled, they are in good shape and the guy wants $65.00,good price or not?

Usually for ground that has already been cultivated.. some have exchangable tips.. are they "S" tines or "C" tines. I'd grab them for $65 bucks.

I'd say you could get a way with breaking up topsoil if they are c-shaped and if your not dealing with dry, hard ground. The s-tines might just bounce about making a big racket and mess.

mow the vegetation down as low as possible first.

I bought a set last year at TSC and used it to layout my garden, well the late planting. I also used it to cultivate before the beans and corn got too high.... Used two hoes and and kept them between the rows.

Next spring a little better planning and straighter rows and it'll get much more use...the whole garden since I'll have it when I start the garden.
