1st Problem: No cupholder on my New Holland 1520 and I am getting tired of holding a water bottle or it rolling around by my feet and end up running over it.
2nd Problem: Locating a "heavy-duty" aftermarket cupholder that would mount to my ROPS so its out-of-the-way and yet easy to mount and also remove. Couldn't find any.
3rd Problem: Large enough to hold a big water bottle and not be able to bounce it out of the holder.
4th Problem: I'm cheap when it comes to things like this.
This is my version on my clamp-on water bottle holder. I have also made them for my JD140 garden tractors. Its made out of 3/4" x 1/8" flat steel. I cut the top and bottom to length then make a "circle" by shaping them round on the horn of an anvil. Weld the circle closed and simply add four (4) vertical pieces to make the cage and one (1) across the bottom to keep the container inside. This is the largest one I've made and the first to clamp on but I wanted easy on - easy off and adjustable (since I've never built something right the first time yet). The welded on "u-bolts" are simply pieces of 1/4" all-thread, heated and bent over a piece of angle iron to size them. The backing plates are little pieces of aluminum angle and I used stainless steel lock nuts and washers. Total cost about $5 and two or three lovely hours of tinkering (had the house all to myself - girls were shopping). Best thing of all I DIDN'T have to run to town to get anything - had enough on-hand of what I needed (I think this was the first time).
If you make them high enough they will hold most containers from bouncing out and the diameter (larger IS better in this case) since additional bottom pieces could be added to keep small containers from falling through. I use the larger plastic water bottles with the pull out with your teeth - suck on tops with water. I tried some other drinks, like pop, but it was flat before I got out of the shed from the vibration. Wifey says I shouldn't be drinking so much pop on hot days anyways.
