Viva la de LANCE.

Dedication, spirit, determination, grit, attitude.
Just what we need right now. Go for 6, get 7.

Chim; have you ever considered that taxes paid by those road hogs may just help build the road you are driving on. The damage your vehicle will cause to a road is very much greater that what a cylist can do.

Don't ever think your plate fee covers the cost of the road.

Never knew that bicycles had to pay road tax or be registered. Must be the back woods hick town I live in that still hasn't started to charge these fees. The only taxes that I though cyclist paid were income taxes just like all the rest of us working people. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

( The downside to Americans getting involved in the tour is we now have a bunch of Lance wannabes in our area. These yoyos INSIST on riding in groups and taking up at least 1/2 of the width of the 2-lane rural roads, and act insulted that the road tax-paying motor vehicle operator would have the audacity to use THEIR road.....................chim )

Chim, when we lived down in the country, a couple of times a year, we had really big groups have some kind of rally or something and they would be strung out over 10-15 miles on the farm to market roads, and always tried to space themselves so that no car could pass them. It wasn't unusual to have to follow a bunch of them 5 to 10 miles before there was an opportunity to get safely around them.

Yep...and school taxes...sales taxes...property taxes...just thinking of all the taxes is taxing... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Kind of amazing that the land of cheap energy and fuel guzzeling vehicles could produce a superior bycyclist... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Looks like taxes aren't the real issue. Courtesy is. If it were a few times a year, who would care? In our area, there are fairly large groups of Lance wannabes that just don't give a rip how many motorists are behind them while they ride two or three abreast and take up the entire lane of traffic. I frequently encounter a single rider who is out in the lane of travel - although there's a nice approx. 8' wide paved shoulder.

It would be neat to rig up something on my truck that upon hitting a button on the dash, would inject some foul-smelling (OK, but sky-friendly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) smoky chemical into the hot exhaust just as I pass them....................chim

Betcha can't tell this may just be a pet peeve of mine

I would never have guessed it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but I share it. This doesn't appear to be one bad apple kind of deal. Seems a high percentage of bicycle riders could give a rat's behind about anyone other than themselves.

Try my method..... a blast or two of the air horn usually gets their attention. In the old days, I used the siren, but those days are over since I have retired. Both will get their attention, but only one will always move them over. I am certain that you know which one. Bird..... did you ever do it my way???? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
