Current rimguard prices? Tube or tubeless

Currently Rimguard is around $1.75/gallon at my location. No idea what service/installation charges are. However, I check tire pressure with a "dry" gauge without any problems. Bring the valve stem to top dead center, blow air INTO tire to clear any fluids, check tire pressure. I've used this method for over thirty years - including many years with CaCl - without any problems with any gauges.

For what it's worth, my recent L4760 quote lists a retail price of $3.50 per gallon for Rimguard.

Wet style pressure gauge? I never heard of one. but I think I need one.

Commonly called a "water" gage. Required with CaCl. Will not help with Rim Gard. Once available from good farm stores. Do not expect the folks at TSC to know what you are talking about. Try Gemplers.

A dealer quoted me a price of $800 to have new l5460 tires (rear) filled with Rimguard. That sounds higher than I was expected, has it gone up that much recently?


One poster said his tubeless tires actually slipped on the rim using Rimguard. And I read that some tire places will only fill tube tires to contain the mess......

In reading posts about tube vs tubeless when filling, I like the sound of the potential ability of repairing a puncture with tubeless.

Do yourself a favor and buy cast iron.

I use cast iron on all 10 of my tractors. Never CaCl due to the corrosion issues and no Rim Guard due to the mess that you will have when you inevitably have a puncture.

I do change all of my own tires, and my reasoning is less persuasive for one who does not. If you are willing to throw money at tire repairs, you will be throwing more with liquid ballast.

If you decide on Rim Gard install tubes.

I probably should have also mentioned what the total price was from my local dealer to give you a comparison to go by. They'd fill the rear tires (R4) on my L4760 with 110 gallons of Rimguard for $383.90 (this comes to $3.49/gallon.)

I've never had a problem taking tire pressure - even with CaCl- see post #11. I got my "wet" tire gauge from Napa just a week ago ($8.75). I would imagine that whether you rear tires are filled with CaCl or Rimguard it could be a mess.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm finding the tire pressure gauge conversation a little baffling. I've always set my tractor tires for maximum traction based on the lowest pressure necessary to keep the tire touching the ground all the way across the tread. This can vary a lot depending on what's on the 3pt, and I can't imagine there would be a perfect setting for any machine/tire/workload combination. Again, I could be lost in the woods here, so maybe I can carry away a little insight into why a gauge is better than the way I was taught.
