Curved steering rod on CK30?

   / Curved steering rod on CK30? #11
Well I got my CK30HST yesterday and just did some little stuff and I noticed my steering rod is curved also!! Don't know if I did it or it came that way.

IN ANY CASE, as we did in Xerox sales training, I am turning (ha ha, turning) this INTO A FEATURE, NOT A PROBLEM!

Since the rod bent so neatly (looks like it should be that way!) I loosened the ends and turned it to lengthen it a bit. Now, the rod is neatly curved to avoid at least whatever happened before, and somewhat near its original length.

Which brings to mind the question, does anyone have the CORRECT distance/length for this rod?

You really should replace it. It was around $70 for the rod. I don't think your alignment would ever be correct with the curved one.

Replace rod and set toe per owners manual. Its one of the few things they specify.

Well help me a little here. I measured the length of the rod along the curve and the horizontal length, the bending of the rod made it about 1/8" shorter. I lengthen the new rod distance by loosening the jam nuts and turning it to make the rod length 1/8" longer.

How does anything in the tractor know the rod is bent?

Note the nice clean lines on this new design bent rod. The careful alignment closer to the engine, giving more free space under the tractor.

With the original toe in adjusted for, this rod provides a degree of under carriage customization heretofore not possible for Kioti owners. Your neighbor will want one.

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifI will be taking orders soon. Send your steering rods to me and I will bend them for you, only $123.44.

Man, I've gotta get one of those!!! Great price for custom steering components too.
Us Jeep types figured out a long time ago to get the drag link up outa the way.

Your toe out on turns will be all screwed up. Just slow down when you bank into the corners--maybe keep it under 106mph. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It's hard to get a serious answer here some days.
You may reach a point with bent tie bar that to get proper toe adjustment you will not have enough threads left in the tube.
Or it hits stuff underneath. If its not bent this much go out and try harder!!

Just make sure that your tire's toe in is correct by measuring the rear and front of the tires. The front distance should be 2-8mm less than the rear distance. Otherwise, you should have not problems.

Hey thanks John for the 2-8mm figure! Once I adjust that I can do more " towin' " with the tractor!

Do I understand you did the User manual? That's fantastic. There was something about it that caught my attention when I first opened it. The illustration numbers, I said to myself, hmmm, there's some organization here.

I just ordered the IPB and the Shop Manual.

Didnt you get an owners manual with your rig?? Its one of the few things listed spec wise- the toe in.
Its humorous reading if nothing else. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
