Just had a friend give me an electric Cushman golf cart, not running. I am sure it will need new batteries but not sure if everything else is OK. Was wondering if anyone was using one of these things as a work cart and if parts are fairly easy to get.

I haven't really looked into it yet as it was dark when I got it home but it has a pretty nice little bed on the back where the clubs are suppose to sit. Anyone put a larger bed on one?

TIA
Bob

Of the "work carts" I have seen, all have been gas. I think parts are fairly easy to obtain. They make lift kits for golf carts that I think run about $1000.

Ya, I wished it was gas but beggars can't be choosers. Our property is flat and pretty smooth so it should be fine as-is. My main use will be running back and forth from the shop to the house with whatever tools and parts I need for the project at hand. Would be kinda neat to put a small dump bed on it for moving dirt. Will be a while before I will be able to get a FEL and would sure be better than a wheel barrel.

Give EBAY a try for Golf Cart parts.
We have a newer electric Club Car. We use it a lot. No engine to start and warm up.
Here is a picture of it with a box on the back. Click Here

I don't know anything about repairing them, but yes, quite a few are used as work carts. One summer my wife and I worked in an RV resort and that's what we used; just had to remember to plug them in at night to recharge the batteries. And in this area a lot of apartment complexes, and the mobile home park where we now live, have them for their maintenance personnel.

A friend of mine who owns a large auto dealership has a house in a very influential neighborhood (about 2 million and up) that has 5 acre lots. Their neighborhood association banned basically anything with an engine in their yards other than mowing equipment. Well, technically an electric cart does not have an engine , it has electric motors . Since they are all but silent, nobody complained. His has a nice bed on it and he abuses the heck out of it and it holds up fine. You may want to shop for reconditioned batteries or something. My friend with one told me that when he had to replace the batteries on his last cart, he just bought a new one. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I just assumed from that, that he was implying that the batteries were expensive. Good luck!

You can buy batteries at sears if you can't find a cheaper place or one close by. About $60 each.
here is mine.

Jimbrown:

Wyatt Earp seems to like your golf cart.

Nice job. There is a road at the base of the moutain in the background old Wyatt was probly down that road a many a time. Gleeson Road went between Gleeson, Turkey Creek (where Jonny Ringo was killed) and Tombstone.
