Cut 10 acres with a pull behind?

I mow 10 acres with a 5' rotary cutter and it takes forever. It was fun when I first started doing it, but after the 2nd time I was wishing for a larger cutter.

how long did it take you? i mow with a 5ft bush hog and do over 40 acres a year and on some pretty steep hills. i average just under an acre an hour. guessing you might be the same with your 10 acres= 10 hours? i guess it is all in how you want to spend your time. i can see if you don't enjoy mowing a bit it could get tiring.

when I used to cut my 10ac pasture with a ford * and 5' mower I was taking about 6 ish hours as I recall. but my land is flat ..

*( not usually an N.. but later , generally 00/01model.. though an N did mow it now and then..plus a few others.. and some later ones.. etc.)

You definitely could do it with a pull behind, but I'd agree with Soundguy-a vintage tractor and a 5' bush hog could be had for $3-4000, would be a heavier duty unit, and you would have a tractor for all the other uses you could find.

We used to cut 6 acres with a quad & 60" pull behind. Had to go slow for a nice cut. The quad would heat up so we parked it in shade a while then continued. IMO you could do it but will take time & expect some overheating.

I do 6 acres of flat hayfield in 3 hours with a 6-ft brush hog behind my 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD).

thanks soundguy and flusher. nice to have the comparison times. i use a kubota b7800 with fel to do my bush hogging. (5 ft bush hog) the tractor handles it great as far as just mowing. it does get tippy on the side hills i mow, so i have to go slower=57" wheel width (have to watch out for the occasional dip or woodchuck hole sideways on slopes that already make me feel uneasy. hit a hole unexpectedly and i would be going over). some i have to go straight up and back down repeatedly. some of the ground is rough so i go slow to not beat up the equipment. the just under an acre an hour is an average on all of it. i bet on the flatter and smoother areas i am very close to what you guys mentioned=around 2 acres an hour.
