Do not cue a drimmel tool!! Groomer used one on my Yorkie and got her hair caught in it and it pulled the tool into her belly and ripped a large gash in her.
Many $$ and time healed her, but she was never the same after that.

I hope the groomer paid the $$$.

I have a little container of "Kwik Stop Styptic Powder" from PetSmart just for that purpose, but fortunately have only used it once in 6 years.

And when I trim our chihuahua's toenails with the clippers, I thin file or smooth them with the dremel, but she doesn't have long enough hair to get caught.

Years ago I worked for a veterinarian and they would use a soldering iron to cauterize the end of the nail. Worked great.

Really? Cayenne pepper? Sounds painful, even worse than rubbing salt in a wound.

Not as many nerve endings in cutaneous material and hurts no more or less than a styptic. You may be thinking of a jalapeno.

So sorry to hear about the groomer injuring your dog. There are various stones, in relation to the coarseness, involved in dremel tools. We use the medium coarse ones. That is why we initially started with a file and graduated to the tool. Our Pet is a Yellow Lab, and that is why we slide her paws over panty hose, thus eliminating the possibility of catching her paw hair. This method will not be the best idea if an animal is not use to the humming noise. Our Pet is used to the sound that is generated by the dremel tool. She does not get frightened and does not move or react in a way that propels her body hair to come into contact with the dremel tool.

The groomer paid all vet bills, over $800. Poor dog never did trust people after that.
