I had 1.5" in the rain gauge at the end of the 3 day long rain event last fri evening.

last night i was out plowing up the garden and all but the lowest spots were drying out enough that it wasnt mud anymore...

farmers seem happy as they got there stuff in a week or so before that and now everything in the feilds is popup in like mad ;)

You should see what weighted R-1's in 4WD can do

No, you should see what weighted R-1's in 2wd can do! Rut city! 4wd helps to avoid slipping and thus avoid ruts. I have lots of recent experience here in soggy Michigan.

On the other hand, the traction I can get with R1s and 4wd is absolutely amazing. I don't think anything but a track machine can compare in mud and bad conditions. (Of course, I now know these are conditions when I should be staying off the soil because I'm probably compacting it like crazy.)

It just rained here, for about 5 minutes, not enough to wet the dust in the driveway. Sure isn't enough to put out any fires!

I agree. In 2WD when wet my fronts may slide a little when turning really tearing up the turf. 4WD tends to PULL the front-end along. Thus, no turf damage!

I've mowed my yard at least 4 times and each time the grass is so tall it really clumps. I've mowed my PASTURE 3 times!

Glowplug and Z-Michigan:

Now that you mention it I can not remember  whether or not I really tore up the "lawn" in 2WD or 4WD with my R-1's. I guess I should go out and take a "spin" and/or at least try some figure 8's on the lawn to see which does the most damage. I will let "She Who Must Be Obeyed " be the judge. Be prepared for some good bargains on a used tractor and attachments in good condition  afterwards. Jay :D

Chuck, you have some really nice lawn toys!

Jay, I will take the bargain on your TC29 full setup. May I suggest you do figure-8s between the front lawn and the garden? I'd like some photos too. :)

We're getting about our normal rainfall here and all the grass is doing really well. Good thing too since the prior owners (through last October) kept 7 horses on only 2 acres of pasture, err paddocks. :( They must have planted some really tough grass though because it's starting to come back in those pastures with no horses on them (our 2 horses are on a recently created new pasture that was formerly useless lawn that we didn't want to have to mow).

Seven horses on 2 acres!! That should be illegal!
Probably nothing left but mud and manure.
