Welcome to the forum.

What was "bitter cold" ?

Fuel history? When was it last filled? Addatives?

Can you get it inside where it is warm?

Filling out your profile will help with answers to your questions and dilema. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If your fuel has not been winterized to prevent waxing or gelling at cold temperatures, you could have been able to run the tractor long enough to plug the fuel filter. Warming the tractor up to get the fuel temperature above the gel point will get things flowing again.

I dont have any winterized fuel. Im new to the real countryside and didnt thinkit was going to be necessary. One learns fast. Do you think i should get an electric heater and warm the machine up or do you think I should drain the fuel filters etc. What winter fuel additive do you recommend

Thanks

I don't know about getting everything back to normal, but I use Powerservice (recommended by many on this forum). My dealer told me I didn't need it if I bought pump diesel, but I still didn't want to take any chances. You might have proved my hunch out.

Good luck. BTW, where are you located?

i was using pump fuel, so your hunch is correct.

In late fall I intentially run my 2210 low on fuel (not out!) and wait to re-fill in November when I know they're selling winter blend. I also get rid of any existing diesel from my storage can that would be a summer blend.

On the first winter fill-up I double-up on the PS additive and run the tractor 5-10 minutes to ensure that PS is all the way though the fuel system.

I've had the tractor 2 winters now and have had zero starting problems.

I also installed the block heater, which is pretty easy to do if you are handy. 1-2 hours of plugging in and the tractor starts like it's already warmed up. If you're storing your tractor outside or in an unheated building the block heater really helps reduce wear during startup.

First thing to do is clean or replace your fuel filter. You should be ok with additives since your diesel fuel is from the pump. Maybe you have some water in it. Dry gas for diesel and a half gallon or so of kerosene should fix you right up. My tractor is out in the weather until further notice and hasn't given me any problems as of yet. I've run over 20 gallons thru it in the last month.

Thanks for all your help. I pulled out the fuel filter and it was like a popsicle. No point in trying to clean it so that was replaced. I put a heater next the engine for the day and have now winterized the fuel. The tractor started up fine and is running well.

I was thinking of using one of those beer can coolers on the fuel filteras a insulator when not using the tractor during this cold spell.

I am afraid that it won't do any good to insulate the filter unless you have some source of heat IN the filter. The insulation will just keep the filter and fuel from getting warmer or colder. Does your tractor actually quit or just cut out for an instant? If so, you might be bouncing off of the seat safety switch (if your unit has one) Pat
