Cutting PTO Shaft

Bird,

How do you like that saw? Every time I see one in a store or catalog, it catches my eye. Seems like it'd be pretty handy, since I have an air outlet on my workbench. Are they as powerful/versatile as a sawzall? How much did yours cost? Just looking for some opinions - thanks.

Paul, they're not as powerful as a sawzall, but plenty of power for anything I've ever needed to do, and I'd say they're more versatile because they're small and light weight, easy to handle. And mine didn't cost me anything./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif My brother had two Blue Point saws (Snap-On products) and gave me one. Later, he took a broken Ingersoll-Rand as a trade-in and I fixed it, kept it for my use, and gave him back the Blue Point to sell, simply because a Blue Point will sell for more money than an Ingersoll-Rand just because of the Snap-On name./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Chicago Pneumatic also makes a good one, and you can buy MAC or Matco with their name on it, but it'll be made by Ingersoll or Chicago Pneumatic. I repaired/rebuilt several of each brand (Blue Point parts cost more, of course, even though it's the same design as the Chicago Pneumatic) and they're all good and would probably never need repairs if they were kept clean and oiled.

This shaft 1/8 to 3/16" thick, I didn't really measure it and it wasn't round or square. Sort of {} shaped in an odd kinda way.
Sawzall, ya know now I do have a place for one in the garage. Lookout Lowes.

Need your help and advise….

I have never cut a PTO shaft and do not feel too comfortable with the idea of cutting one. Guess if I have to, this thread will be a great help. I am buying a tiller and will need to cut the shaft. I am also buying a snowblower. The dealer will cut the PTO shaft to fit the snowblower. Now my question, can I use the PTO shaft from the snowblower on the tiller? What do you think? I do not have either unit yet but will in a few weeks. The snowblower and tiller are from different manufactures and from two different dealers, yes the power of the Internet! Oh its for a Kubota BX 2200 if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Tom

Tom, I don't think we have enough information (and of course can't see them) to tell whether the same PTO driveshaft can be used on both; maybe, maybe not. But I wouldn't want to myself; too much trouble to change it out. And cutting the PTO shaft to the right length is really quite simple (assuming it comes with the instruction manual).
