You dont have one of these lying arround you would like to donate to the cause do you. I think I have to have a double acting cyl.to work with the hyd. on the tractor.

Calculate torque around the pivot point, not force.
If you just calculate force you may be embarrassed at the county dump with a trailer full of something you don't really want to bring home.

I understand your problem with the 10 degree starting angle. Can you lower the front of the ram a bit? With only a 3 inch ram it isn't going to lift much very high. If you move it forward to lighten the ram load it won't pick as high. Tradeoffs are a bummer.
Lowering the ram on the subframe will give you better angle for lift and still keep the same height pretty much full extended.
