i have to replace a cylinder on my backhoe ...overall lenght is 21'' retracted...extended shaft is 16'' does this make it a 16'' stroke ??? i know it should be simple .but it must my old age creeping in..i just cant think straight.... thanks for the help bruce

With cylinder retracted, measure the distance from center of base mounting hole to shaft end mounting hole. Then extend the cylinder shaft until it stops. Measure from the center of the base pin to the center of the pin hole on the extended shaft. That will be your stroke.

I thought you were supposed to subtract the retracted length from center of pin to pin from the extended length from center of pin to pin to get the amount of stroke. So if extended length is 60" from center to center and retracted is 44" from center to center, then the stroke would be 16".
