Most of the rain has passed us but there is itty bitty bit that is about to hit and then there looks like a bigger blob down in Georgia heading this way. Rain gauge overflowed at 1.5 inches of rain. Good thing we are on a hill and have kayaks and a canoe. The hill will give us time to load up the boats and an easy launching point before the Ark stops by....

dmccarty has it nailed. Beyond what he says is that much of the Japanese leadership wanted to carry on, in spite of the firebombing of major cities that killed as many in one night as an A-bomb did. The emperor, who should have been tried for war crimes, held a meeting, heard both sides and to his credit, decided that Japan should surrender. And even though the Japanese seemed to have undying devotion and obedience to the emperor, there was a by among young officers who wanted to carry on the war when the word was passed that Japan was going to surrender. Fortunately, the revolt was put down quickly.
