Mit,
Go to Valley Power, click on the technical data link on the left. You will find a wealth of information compiled by Mr. Ed Krampitz that may answer some questions. It has helped me as well as many others.

The closest US model is the S670. I have parts books & supply parts using the D1850 parts book. The ST4820/1840 is the Satoh equivalent.

anyone have a kpx backhoe attached to their tractor. what is your opinion of it?the price seems reasonable.

Mit,
I use 15W40 chevron diesel rated oil in the engine. Rotella is good too. Whatever you used make sure it if for a diesel engine. My transmission and differential has common reservoir on both my tractors. (smaller than yours) If you are going to use a backhoe, loader or other hydraulic stuff and your 1850 has a common reservoir then you can use hydraulic oil rated for gear drive transmissions. It is available at Tractor Supply, Wal Mart, parts stores etc.. I buy mine in 5 gallon pails and it says what it is for on the bucket. It usually gives a list of brands it will be compatible with. Look for one compatible with JD 303. (pretty common). Both my tractors puff a little smoke, not much.

with the loader attached now i have to recheck the oil in the hydralic case.there is no dip stick. what do i do?

There should be a check plug on the side of the trans/rear end case. On my tractors it just looks like a bolt that has nothing attached to it. Put the oil in the top and when you see it running out the side, your done. It's a little messy but if you are just topping off that how it is done.

can u put up a pic. i looked and found a nut on the clutch side. i found the oil rotella 15w40 at auto barn. 12 dollar gal. i found trans/hyd oil at john deere dealer 58 dollar for 5 gal bucket.

Can't post a pic cause I don't have the same tractor as yours but generally they work similar. Try other sources for the transmission/hydraulic oil. Check with Tractor Supply, Wal Mart, etc. Per other posts on TBN they have it. 58 is too high for trans/hydr. oil. Think I saw it for $30.00 at TSC 3 days ago.

You have a level plug on the right side of the transmission behind, and about on the same level as, the differential lock pedal. Send me an email and I'll send a photo with its location. Better yet, consider buying a operators/maintenance manual from me. Bill - satohparts.com

I'll have to look at mine. Is the plug on the clutch side at the same level as the plug on the brake side? The brake side plug looks lower.
