My D40 does not have a temperture gauge but does have a knock-out panel in the instrument panel for one. Would it be possable to add one?

The DX40 has a temp guage. It COULD be added to the D40 if you get a sensor and guage. You may need to add wiring to make this work too.

Thanks, I'll check with the parts man the next time I am there. Just don't like not having a temp gauge. Not only for telling me when it's too hot but for telling me when it's not running where it usually does. That can be a clue to a problem developing.

I agree, I love gauges. Fun to watch and can warn me before the idiot light goes on!

Ask your dealer if the sending element is the same for the gage and the idiot light. If it is, then all you need is an instrument panel with the gage. Perhaps it could be ordered for a DX model and installed on your tractor. I doubt that you can order less than the whole instrument cluster. I think it's a "unit" replacement. Several people have had instrument panels replaced due to fogging. In all those cases, the entire assembly was replaced.

Good luck! I love having gages. If you don't have a gage, you will never know if your tractor is running too cold (thermostat stuck open) which has happened on a lot of NH and Case compact utility tractors.

Maybe should just trade it on a DX40 or 45.

Good idea.

I wish I had a Turbo Gauge on my NH. i had one on my old SAAB that had a turbo. Always fun to see when the turbo was working.

Ahhh Yesss! Saab turbo's, especially the 900 series, are great cars! My '85 900t 3 door (black of course, 5 speed of course) made the most wonderful whistle as the turbo kicked in, then we just flat disappeared. The boost overpressure relief control had been modded "a bit" and the car would just about fly! I had to use cable ties to keep some of the fittings from being blown out of the plenum, but it sure was fun to drive. The SPG that replaced it wasn't near as much fun, despite being the "high performance" model.

It's also pretty cool to be on a long uphill grade on a freeway running among the semi's and listen to turbo's spool up as the drivers change gears. There's just something magic about turbocharger whistle and the implications of power to come. :)

I did the same thing, even added an aftermarket air to air intercooler. On a nice cold day (15 degrees), with premium fuel the car would fly. If memory serves me right, mine was a 3 door, crank windows, and very light. I would adjust the turbo to overboost, getting lot's of pressure that SAAB probably only used on their rally cars.

Now I drive a 70HP Turbo tractor. I loved the SAAB and now I love the tractor.
