Well if anyone cares-.

I care :)

Ive also been researching a seat swap and a couple other things to make the interior a nicer place to be in.

Enjoy, Questions or comments are greatly appreciated.

-.

the leather seats in my 99 f350 are beyond trashed.. but the seat covers look ok if you don't stare hard.. :)

I love this truck, overall it just has a great appearance, bullet proof engine and usable bed.

Thanks, I can say over the short time Ive had it Im in love with it fully also!!!

If it's a 12 valve they are not bulletproof. Just better than most.

Very true, but I dont abuse my stuff I just need it reliable so it works for me.

I care :)

Thanks Buddy, Yeah after extensive research i think im just gonna put in the 40-20-40 style seat ( $175) from the same vintage truck, a superduty seat is just way to big for what I use it for, (i still want to be able to have a passenger AND change gear, if you know what I mean)

Thanks, Mills

Well it certainly has been a while since an update so here goes:

since the last update, it was my daily driver but it developed some fuel leaks and need some attention to a few things (intercooler hoses not flared and blowing off under load, lack of power, sticking injector) other than that it started reliably got 18 mpg and was in my opinion the coolest ride around.

at this point I started a new job and questioned the reliability of the truck as is to get me there, so I bought a new daily. a 2007 toyota fj cruiser as a more comfortable way to get me to work and back. the truck then became a weekend ride and work truck as needed.

soon it went under the knife and I told myself that it wasnt leaving till it was all fixed!

after countless hours and being a predominant statement in the garage for the better part of a year it was back in the game after alot of fab work, injector pump, pisotn drive lift pump, new gaskets, valve seals, stock style injectors, wiring, full axle rebuilds, brakes, 19.5 wheels and new tires, the start of red to grey interior swap, etc. it finally fired up just like it had ran 10 minutes ago not 10+ months ago! and i pulled it out of the garage and went for a cruise. I soon discovered a leaking radiator and a bad gauge cluster, so back in it went.

heres some pictures to get you caught up.

So at this point I fixed what was left on it, Sent my spare radiator off and got some deals on parts trucks to finish it. I have made good progress on the interior, I decided to go with 2004 F-150 power bucket seats and a 2006 F-550 center seat from my hookup at the local junkyard, To finish of the interior I have door panels, gauges, and the trim at the back of the cab to finish it up, It has turned out great so far! However I did not account for the amount of time that just the interior hjas takin up to finish.

At this point I had a fully usable truck once again, Ive hauled everything from firewood to lumber to even converting it to a Gin Pole setup to hoist the heavy wood stove up in my house through the door (shown lowered down in the pictures).

The Dream Machine as Its now called is off to get a good paint job in the correct factory black color here very soon, since every time I wash it more of the white flakes off.

More to come soon!!!

thanks for the pics!

what was the vintage of the 5.9? was a KDP era engine?

The engine was orignally a 91 Non Intercooled Cummins out of a D250. The non intercooled have some point in there head design about being stronger anyway.

It was a pre KDP engine but since I was in there I piened to hole on 4 sides and tabbed it with a longer bolt and locktight, It was really necessary though because I dont think it had even moved at all, So I think the motor has Had an easy life, also the internals of the engine looked brand new with no sludge or dark residue at all. :D

cool, thanks for the update.

I really did love the ford maroon interiors. I had a ltd crown vic circa 91 with that interior...

Not to rain on your parade mind you just want to mentioin what happened to my former neighbor's 92'. He had a bolt drop out and get jammed up in the timing chain, breaking the gear off the camshaft. Ended up he had to replace the head due to the damage.

The neighbor had happened by to see what I was up to on the day I was using the tab method on my 97' Dodge. After we talked, I checked my bolts and did find some that were less than spec.

Anyway, it is a cool ride and you can be proud. Way back when, I was on the TDR, there was a member that stuffed an 8.3/RR into an F250. He was pretty good with the fire stick and had to do some pretty impressive mods to the frame and all to support the weight of not only an 8.3 but also the RR. Not to mention the sheet metal mods to the floor to clear the RR.

Really Ive only ever met two people that really liked that color. I hope i did the right thing by going away from it.

Well I have heard of on these vintage engines the bolts are as big of a deal as the KDP thats why I took them all out and put the good locktight on them when they went back in, its going to take heat to get those babys out now!

an 8.3 cummins in anything less than a medium duty truck would be quite a feat. I dont know the exact number on those but I would guess they weight close to 1500 pounds with all the dress on them? It would pull good though i bet with all that torque.

Yeah, I really did.

Back when I was looking for a farm truck I went out to look at a 90 733 IDI ford 350l silver body red interior... it was old but cheap. like 2900$ On the way back from looking at it, I passed by a dealership that had a 99 450 with the 7.3psd and I used the $$ i was gonna buy the olde rone with as a downpayment instead. :)

Why do you think it wouldn't pass? Just curious.

I am not really sure what the laws are regarding a engine swap. It may not be that bad since it is a diesel. I saw on TV that for a 50 state legal swap the engine had to come out of the same make vehicle and be the same year or new year or newer. I was thinking about doing a V8 swap in Ranger. I was going to get everything from a Explorer and keep it EFI. I emailed the DMV and asked them what the laws were on engine swaps. All they told me was the engine is a integral part of the vehicle and has the VIN on it. Since the engine has the VIN on it your are required to get a reconstructed title.

I don't see that being a diesel would make it any better or worse.

I have read the same thing about same year or newer.

So they expect every one who replaced an engine, from a Jasper reman to a junkyard takeout, to get a rebuilt title? To h*ll with that!

A diesel in the year of the OP's truck did not have any emission equipment on it. A gas truck in that year had a bunch of junk on it. So a diesel Ford getting a Cummins may be easier:confused3:

I guess if you change the engine in it they want a rebuilt title, that will kill the value of the vehicle.

I could email the DMV again and see what king of answer they give me this time. I'll ask the guy when I get my car inspected in December if he is not busy.

Well as far as the DMV goes it was a diesel 7.3 before its still a diesel now so there good when you go from diesel to gas or gas to diesel is when they get worked up, it was in the same emissions bracket as the old engine so its compliant, so were good! c:thumbsup:

Cool truck:thumbsup:
