Great photo - nice depth of field at that close range.
That looks a lot like the blue darter dragonflies we get around our pond.

Nice pic.

Damsel and dragon flies are cousins I guess from reading a bit. A damsel fly at rest will have its wings folded back parallel to the body. Dragon fly wings remain extended away from the body. I never really paid attention to trying to separately identify the two. Now I have to watch this summer. It isn't easy to find them resting.

So that is a dragon fly then?
Can't change it now......

I like the blue darters - they seem to hang around our place all day, eating mosquitos.

Lots of colors on that one. Another great pic.

Our mosquito population stays low as long as we have plenty of dragon flies around. In the mid-evening hours they will be out in squadrons patrolling the tractor lanes.

I love the paint job on that one - maybe a Red-veined Darter? You must have some water around your place.
I'm hoping to start seeing some as the river has flooded with snow melt and now the water is dropping. As it does, it exposes the flood plain, which is a vast skeeter-breeder, out behind our woods. I could use their help in the next week or so. By late May the skeeters will pick you up off your feet if you don't hold on tight to something fixed to the ground.
