Dandelions!!

I reclaimed my lawn from the weeds by fertilizing and aerating. I used agricultural grade fertilizers, they are cheap and strong. It must rain after they go on or your lawn will burn after 3 days. No watering, no pesticides or herbicides. It takes a year or so to bring it around, but then again it took ten years of neglect for it to deteriorate. Timing is everything and mother nature has helped out with lots of rain.
I avoided pesticides and herbicides because my water is from a well and also because my kids and dog spend a lot of time in the yard. My dog is 18 this year.

reclaiming a lawn that is in full shade is a breeze, try reclaiming a lawn in moderate to heavy shade. Anyone have any experience in that???

I put Preen Broadleaf Weed Killer on it about a month ago, and now no dandelions. Now for the crabgrass. Any ideas?? I have a fescue/Bluegrass mix. I am thinking of reseeding with fescue in the fall.

It's meant to kill the weeds, not grass so you might want something stronger. for heavy infestations I mix per directions and have to do it twice or go back and spot spray. I have so few now I just mix it hot and use a gallon sprayer to spot spray.

Yes,
I too would use 2-4d. Its cheap and works well. Don't spray it near cotton or hibiscus with in several dozen yards, and then at that you might see some leaf curl. Its a great all around broad leaf weed killer in grasses. It very commonly used in corn to kill out broadleafs.

Dandelions are the most healthful Plant known to Man. Cook the Greens for a few minutes, then pour off the water add fresh water and some salt Bacon and cook until tender. Dig the Roots and dry them, Boil Them and make a Tea. It is good for Bladder infection. The Indians called it ole piss the bed. It will make You go.
