Dang cardinal attacking the windows

Interesting, and true. We had a neighbor with a turkey vulture problem. Now those are some big birds. And they happen to be protected here in this part of the commonwealth. There were quite a lot of them too. They sat on each pole spreading their wings over the fence line. Anyway to make a long story short, they finally called in the game warden. He shot and pegged one to the fence, wings spread.
No more turkey vultures came by.

That does seem to work. A few years ago, when I had a problem with the crows, I tried scaring them off for several days just with the sound of my shotgun and they'd come right back. But after I finally shot one and hung him on the fence by the garden, no more problem.

I have had this problem with a robin at my hosue. It attacks car windows, house windows and the garage.
One day I got to my truck and there was blood all over the window, apparently it busted it's beak or something. About a week later I found it dead right below the door of my truck. I guess it attacked the window too hard.
One day it came to attack my truck, window was down and it hit me in the head.

Jim,

These windows are all tinted. Being such, is it possible to remove the reflection?

Follow-up - the pictures of the owls taped to the window didn't do a dang thing...

I like cardinals and hate to shoot them but I'm still on the fence. I think I'll try a owl decoy just so I don't have to shoot a new bird every year...

Brian,

What side of the glass did you put the picture on?

Here's another picture option..... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Inside, right where it was normally hitting.

Oh heck, that's just a kitten.
Here's my cat (although he looks pretty calm in this picture).

Here's a pic of my guard dog.
Unfortunately, he doesn't care about anything the size of a bird.

OK, all joking aside.
I might have found something.
I just e-mailed a friend who has a good sized farm to see if he had an owl decoy. He didn't but heard that if you hang some foil strips outside the window so they blow in the wind, that'll keep the bird away.

Well, I'm in a deep valley... Wind??? Doesn't happen much.
But, I did grab one of the kids foil balloons and taped to the outside between the windows. The cardinal hasn't been back since!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think one of the keys is to put the picture/foil/balloon etc... on the outside of the window.......since the windows are tinted and the bird sees his/her reflection. The bird more than likely does not see what's on the inside of the glass.

Oh heck, one more picture for the collection.....
