Since this site is a Family Oriented site. I really don't think all this talk about killing cats would qualify?
It's a sad fact that some people just like to kill things.Any excuse will do.What's amazing to me is that they're so willing to talk about it.In our area animal control takes a dim view of roaming animals, and does a good job of controlling them. That's what they do..........A 22 cal. gun can kill at a mile distance I wouldn't think it was safe to shoot one on 5 acres.........Yeah get a killer Akita ,then you can shoot him when he kills your stock.A search of this this site will turn up a thread explaining just how to do that...I too don,t think this topic belongs on this forum.

So i guess i need around 600 acres to shoot a 22? I guess if some one broke in my house to rob me i should just give him my property and not defend myself. Sorry thats not gonna happen. Update on cat problem i havent caught any more cats or see any cats.

for the record we have two dogs and two cats- cats are restricted to the house- dogs spend most of the in the house- outside either with supervision, on a tether or in an enclosure. Strays that come and go do just that- come and go. If they were to take up a more permanent residence, various methods would be employed. If the animal is sick or a danger, more drastic measures would be moved up the list of otpions- but would not be the first option. Sorry if I offended anyone.

You are a responsible pet owner like myself and i wish there were more like us.
Some people think that they can let there animals roam where ever they want
these people dont have any business with any kind of pets. I dont want people to think i hate cats cause i dont if any animal was being a pest and trying to harm my animals i would do the same to them. I have all kinds of animals coming onto my property that drink from my pond i dont run out there and shoot them.
Some people think killing any animal is wrong but if the animal population is not controlled you get the situtation i have had here with cats.

Wicked,

I agree, I hate it when people don't take care of their animals and let them run wild. I have 17 cats on my property that I have fixed and got imunized for rabies. The dang neighborhood dogs used to run wild all over the place, they would come onto my property, and terrorize my cats. Just like you, I got tired of their behavior, so I killed them and gave them a decent burial.

Glad we have the same kind of thinking.

I am glad to see we have the same values. I wish all people would take care of there pets like we do. Where i use to live there was this lady that would walk a big rotweiller right in front of my house everytime i let my dogs out. The woman weighed about 80 lbs and when her dog would lunge toward my fence after my dogs it would just pull her all over the place. I finally had to tell her that she needed to walk that dog in another direction besides my house if she cant control her dog cause if it starts trying to get through my fence i am gonna shoot it. She got mad but i dont see why if you cant control your animals you should not have them. Down here in louisiana you see all these thug wanna be punks and they got there pit bulls with them it really makes me laugh. They cant take care of thereself how are they gonna afford a dog. I know of a guy whos brother bought an akita for 800.00 but couldnt afford the shots and it died of parvo what an idiot.

AB4D, good for you and I totally agree!

To me, as a pet owner, I expect, or perhaps even demand, that other pet owners be responsible owners. I willingly concede that some animals OCCASIONALLY get loose and stray from home, but the responsible pet owner gets the animal, brings it back, fixes the fence (or door, or chain, or whatever) and the animal is basically somehow confined to the property for the vast majority of its life. My 2 dogs are both fixed (I have both a male and a female) and neither stray off my land. Both have followed me to my neighbors, but neither have gone there without me first being there. We keep them fenced in a very large area and if a neighborhood cat, dog, or wild raccoon, rabbit or whatever ends up in that area . . . well folks but it won't survive  and I make no apologies for that because the animinal should not have wandered into that area.

For the pet owners who do not spay/neuter and let their animals roam 24/7, all I can say is that I hold them in contempt. They are screwing up the ecosystem and the habitat of the native wildlife. Depending on the breed & health & disposition/temperment of their pet, they may even be endangering children, adults & animals (both domestic & wild) who encounter those animals.

To ANYONE who gets their panties in a bunch if someone shoots your free roaming animal/pet because it was perceived to be a nuscience then I am absolutely sorry but you should take a look at yourself and your values before you start to suggest that others are wrong. If people find these statements offensive, then realize I probably find your statements just as offensive. So be it.

The big hearted wife feeds the strays until they think they have a new home. Then she puts them in a cage and gives them to a neighbor down the road that likes barn cats. We're both allergic to cats.
And thus continues the cycle...

I lived next to a dairy farm, now out of the business, that thought distemper was a form of population control. Their cat population varied from 4 or 5 to 25 or more depending on the disease cycle. I disposed of several that my children found dead on our lawn. On the other hand we adoptd one of the stray kittens, got it the proper shots/vacinations, and kept it for 19 years. It was the only cat I've ever seen that would come when called. I think the only reason to shoot strays is because you can't shoot their former owners and stop the problem at the source.
