My wife's cousin just emailed this to me...I know when I am mowing in front of our house I sometimes have to get off the tractor and pick up a discarded bottle..I have done it many times....Read this and be real careful from now on !

Drano, Tin Foil & Water = Important

Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles and capping it up - leaving it onlawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the rubbish, but you'll never make it!!!If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some of your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well.Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc.Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!!No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc. Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also informed of this. For verification and more information, click on:snopes.com: Bottle Bombs

Thanks for posting. I would have replied earlier, but I just got off the phone calling people. I have never heard of those devices. I initially thought of acetone when I read the first part of your thread. I knew of the dangers of drano and bleach interacting, but was unaware of the tin foil activation.

Dear Sir. Rest assure that the Op researches his posts somewhat diligently and I have always found his threads and posts to be informative and accurate. As you previously stated, the video did provide a more detailed visual of the device's destructive force.

If you find a capped bottle in your yard kick it and let it lay a few minutes then kick it again before picking it up.

Don't do this barefooted or with shorts on.

Had the same thing using dry ice somehow at a place I worked.

Someone sent this around at work a couple months ago. Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't the contents of the bottle react and explode the bottle some short time after it was capped and tossed onto your lawn?

That's what I am thinking.

When I was juvenile delinquent we used to get granulated chlorine from my friends house(they had a pool), dump it in a pile and pour Pine-sol over it. The thing will start smoking in a few seconds, then burst into a fire so hot it makes an imprint on your retina. Of course we did this for our own entertainment...never to try and hurt anybody.

Yep, nothing new around here. Allthough around here it is called the "works" bomb. Cause " the works" bathroom cleaner is what we used.

Dry ice bombs are cool too. But getting the dry ice is harder than the above. Basically, its just a handfull of dry ice in a bottle, splash some water in and cap it. But chuck it quick, cause it dont take long. The water causes the dry-ice to evaporate quickly (like how they make fog in the movies). Well, the gas form of dry ice takes up WAY more space than the solid form. So as it evaporates, pressure builds until boom.

Thats one I havent heard of. I'm going to have to try that one:D

Pour water and draino into bottom of jug, insert tinfoil so a part of it
hangs over the lip of the jugs threads and install cap so tin foil
does not fall in. If it is desturbed and mixes, kaboom.

In the old days it was carbide and water in a glass jar. I have a friend that still has a piece of glass in his eye ball.

Common in my area, Drano Bomb's, I've lost two mail boxes to them until we found out who the kids were. When the postal service investigator talked to their parents it ended, for the time being, messing with mailboxes becomes a federal offense and they got the message. Also had a road side fire I suspect was a result of one.

As a side note I heard this was developed as a way to do covert car bombs. Fact or fiction I can't say. The story I heard was, before the smaller gas filler openings a smaller bottle could be used and dropped into the gas tank of a car. Few seconds later...boom.
