Well..., It was supposed to be Monday but you know how those things go. Originally they were supposed to get started in June but hey....they're here now!
The bridge came out today and they moved a whole bunch of blue clay with the Cat 330L and 5 yd. bucket. They dug a good portion of the pond that I've estimated to be 35-40ft. deep. I'm off the rest of the week to take more pictures. Might update again tomorrow if the phone line is still connected.

Is that an excavator or a drag line ? Here the big expense is a drag line operator. I have the number and cards of a few retired guys that still do some work. The guy I have doze on my property must be 80 plus. When he cant work any more I am going to cry like a baby. He charges next to nothing and treats my land likes its his own. Looks like the makeings of a first class pond. Are you going to stock it ? Dave

Man, you gotta love an excavator and what it can do! One of these days I want to get my hands on one and play with it - far away from anything that people don't want broken /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. One day and you have A.) No Bridge and B.) A Big Hole - with water in the bottom already!

Looks like it'll be a great pond. Nice, clay soil should hold water just great. Can you send that thing over here when you're done /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif?

Excavator Doc, It weighs about 75,000 lbs, has 250HP, drawbar pull is 66,000 lbs, top speed is 3mph, and it holds 160 gal. of diesel. umm....better put that fillup on the visa /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Tomorrow they're gonna have 2 tandems running. It can fill em up in 3 good scoops.

I dont know that much about the big stuff guys so bear with me. I have talked to several people about getting a pond put in. In the area of my property they all reccomend a drag line. They look like a excavator but the operator can cast the bucket and drag it to the other side of the pond. It is very common to see a swale or point on one side where the machine sets as they dig. I'm told the purpose of this is to save time, thus $ due to the drag line being able to dig the entire pond from one location and even though the labor is more per hour it takes noticeably less hours. Have I been doused in hog wash or is there just more than one good way to get the job done ? I have also been told by several contractors to avoid hireing anyone who would dig a pond with a dozer. Something to do with shelving ???? Dave
