Re: bluish, bright headlights being blinding...

( Me neither! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Dick, is it just because our old eyes are getting older and weaker, or is the same for everyone? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif )

I think what you're seeing, Bird, is the High Intensity Discharge (Xenon) headlights installed in the standard D.O.T. lenses. The Eurospec lens have much more clearly defined cut-off points, and put more useable light on the road without blinding oncoming traffic.

Ever seen a Eurpopean get in an American car at night? They all do the same thing the first time. They turn on the lights, then they get out and walk around the front of the car, scratching their heads.. wondering what they forgot to turn on... because they can't see.

Probably another case of a decision which should be made by engineers being made by politicians instead.

There are also some fake Xenons out there.. they are just bluish-colored lights made mostly for kids trying to impress people.. pretending they have real Xenons when they don't. These just provide *less* light on the road.

Yes, the Xenons are annoying unless they are installed with Eurospec lenses.

As an aside, I believe it's a law that cars equipped with Xenons have to have auto-leveling suspensions.. so a big load in the trunk won't cause the lights to aim higher and blind oncoming traffic.

Best,
Bob

I was one of the guys who thought automatics were for sissies, power windows and locks something else that could go wrong, etc

You sound just like my dad. For most the years growing up I heard this same sentence from my dad, however he liked driving nice vehicles so eventually he caved in and got the power windows ect. After years of driving that car with all that electric stuff he sold it and bought an 03 Accord with most all the bells and whistles. It even has leather and a sun roof which are something he always said he would never have. It was fun repeating the negative remarks about all those gizmos that they and you are now enjoying.

Trev, what he was trying to tell you, was that the DRL that were on all the time. That it was hard for him to tell if he was being signaled to come back over or if the lights were on all the time. Before they came out with them, he could be pretty sure, the driver was telling him to come back over. But as they can't turn them off, he don't know if someone is signaling or what is going on. I understand that. And yes they still like to be helped, those rigs are pretty long, and then if they have a pup on the end, its sometimes hard to tell, how much room they have.

Ha! Mine to... until I moved out... last of 5 children. Then my folks got a snowblower, yard tractor, leaf blower, cars with automatics, air conditioned the house, color TVs in 3 rooms, snow plow on the 4wd Land Cruiser, etc... maybe they were just telling us those things were for sissies to build character. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Or maybe once the 5 children moved out they could finally afford some luxuries that they denied themselves while they were giving us a better life than they had /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't think any of their cars had daytime running lights, though. But I remember a campaign sometime in the 80s that was pushing people to drive with their low beams on even during the daylight hours, when on a highway. Seem to recall it was the insurance companies pushing that.

Old Bear climbed on on me while we were watching the telly so my wife grabbed this picture. He's a toot, no Jessica Simpson fan though, even he knows the what's in Chicken of the Sea cans.

(ya'll can have a tan like that too, just work outside in these mild temperatures) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Okay, we're on the same page then. Thanks, Dick. I was afraid that, after all these years, I was just annoying these guys instead of helping them out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks,
