Dead Battery - BX25

So, apparently the battery on the BX25 is dead. It started yesterday when I had the 4-ways on while the engine was turned off. They were only on for about 5 minutes, and when I went to start it back up it would not start. Had to jump it with the car and it started right up. I then let the engine run for a while to charge the battery. Today I go out to the garage and the battery is dead again. No lights were left on or anything. Guess we need a new battery. The tractor is only just over 1 year old with about 200 hours.

You need to run it more! Just did my 350 hour after 18 months! :thumbsup:

600 hours, 9 years 6 months on the original battery on the BX2200. I just replaced it not because it was dead BUT I did not want to go through another winter with it.

7 years and 350 hours ...Still have the OEM battery and it's fine...When I worked in new car service, we had brand new Hondas with dead batteries on the sales lot...It happens.

seems early for a battery failure (I'm running 800 hours and 5+ years on mine.

you might consider a trickle charger/maintainer (e.g., battery tender)...install semi-permanently on the tractor and just plug in (you did mention garage, no) ...some maintainers can bring an apparently weak battery back to life, too.

You might consider checking, cleaning, tightening all electrical connections in the battery-charger-starter path before you invest in a new battery ...but, if you are on your way to buy a new one, consider taking the old one with you and they can test it ...if it's good, you know the problem is elsewhere and you've saved some money...if it's bad, they can recycle it for you.

Mine is just about 7 years and never had to do anything yet...

Several have had issues with moisture in the switches draining the battery.

The normal things like making sure the connections are secure and the belt isn't slipping are good places to start.

If you have the time... you may want to charge the battery and leave a cable off for a few days to see if the problem still exists when you re-connect the cable and try to start.

I have a load tester bought years ago that is one of my favorite tools because it lets me measure cranking capacity and also show charging functions...

Oh... not sure... might want to check water level... even most sealed batteries can be opened and checked.. found some that were quite low over the years.

Last point is many tractors have small alternators or dynamos... barely enough to keep up when running all the lights or accessories.
