I had what I thought was a bad battery on my lawn tractor. I would go out to start it would not turn over the tractor and I would have to charge the battery. It would even happen after it had been running a while. I bought a new battery and it was fine for a week, then the same thing happened.
I took it to the dealer because it was under warranty. He said the valves needed adjustment and because of that, there was a lot of back pressure which made it hard to turnover which seemed gave it weak battery symptoms. He said charging the battery must have given it just the little more power it needed to turn it over.
I haven't had a problem since and I still have the original Deere battery. (4 years later), With the replacement sitting on a shelf.
