I got some Crabgrass killer one time to kill grass growing in the gravel driveway, said to spray it on and would kill grass in 4-7 days, and re-apply as needed Hah! after I watched it grow another 2 inches in 2 days I then decided to simply pull it up I should had know that the "Re-apply" meant that this stuff is weak and wasn't going to work good the first time and was trying to sell more product.
I do know the " Roundup " works in just a couple days as they say it does, although it also has to be reapplied every so often, maybe 3-4 weeks,

If you own a tractor you probably own or need a chainsaw. From a decent sized chainsaw to moderate lumber is an easy step.
Google Alaskan Mark III, buy one from Bailey's ($200) and the next time a tree comes down cut it like a bureaucrat does red tape - lengthwise.

Actually I tried that route with some of the Live Oaks that grow around here. I have a cheap HF "lumber maker" that rides on a 2x4 that you nail on the log. Don't know if it was the guide or the hardness of the live oak(I heard that that was the wood they used for "Old Ironsides" due to it's hardness) but about all I created was a lot of sawdust.
I think one of the problems was that I didnt have a rip chain as opposed to a crosscut. Next time I'll try that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Deep, there is a strange senario that can happen esp recently here in the south. I looked at some of these herbicides and its Glyphosate, i was making my own chemical up i guess but you all knew what i was talking about anyway. But back to the stuff not working. In these extreme drought and dry conditions we have been having here in the south, esp in a dry driveway. Glyphosate is taken through the leaves and transfered to the roots of the plant (the reason it kills grass for good) this can only be done when the plant is growing healthily by taking carbohydrates produced in the leaves and transfering it to the roots, well in real dry situations this has slowed down as the plant tries to sustain what it has and drastically slows down growth from a wet scenario. What im getting at here is if it takes 5 days normally to uptake the herbicide and see results it may be more like 10 days in a drought or may not work at all because has broken down by the time it grows. I had this happen to me when i sprayed my drive about 3 years ago it did not do any thing so i just waited for rain and sprayed it the next day with the same tank and the same mixed batch that i sprayed from before and 5 days later i had brown grass, sounds weird but its how it is.

I have a homemade 'lumbermaker' and can attest that the proper ripper chain really results in nice ready to plane boards.
However one cannot make boards for less than you can purchase them for (maybe if you rate yourself at $2-3/hr-LOL)

It is a fun to do thing.

Also I am lucky in that I have a General 5HP 16" planer that can eat 1/4" at a time out of a 10" plank.
Sweeping wood chips from the planer probably takes longer than ripping the logs.LOL!

Can I really make that much, and here I thought I was lucky that the wife told me that she was going to increase my allowance to .75 an hr.(HEHE)
I have a old dewalt 10 in planer that, if I ever do rip up the tree, hopefully I can get a few boardfeet of usable lumber out of it. Thanks for the info.
