( Soundguy - ..... my thinking evolved from 'I want to run it all at the the same time' to 'how can I run most effeciently without giving up necessities'. I prefer to generate only what power I need when I actually need it, rather than just leave a big genny running with a partial load. If you've ever been stuck feeding 5gals every 8hrs for a week you know what I mean. )

I used a 12.5kw pto genny thru florida's last hurricane season.. Intermittant use.. just running it every now and then to pump up water, cool the fridge/freezer, etc. Since I was running it off a tractor, fuel usage was up a bit.. Ironically, my 30 hp gas tractors consumed about the same $$ of fuel to run the genny as my big 72/95 hp diesels... so i deffinately wasn't looking to run that bad bow continously..

I have a 15KW gasoline powered generator with a 16 gallon fuel tank that has an estimated run time of 9 hours at 50% usage.

The diesel generator has a 3.3 gallon tank and an estimated run time of 12 hours. Now, as you know it always seems to be the most uncomfortable after a hurricane and even though the 15KW is capable of handling all of my electrical needs, the price of fuel makes it very expensive to generate electricty. Even though the price of diesel is almost as high as gasoline, this 6KW will handle everything else except the central AC unit at the same time so that's why I purchased a smaller window unit for the bedroom. At least I will be able to sleep somewhat comfortably until the mail-line stuff is restored and for a fraction of the cost.

Carl - It sounds like you got yourself a good deal too. I would prefer a diesel generator, but the 6kw surge on that one won't cut the mustard for me. Does that unit use Yanmar or China Diesel power? Who makes it?
