I have never been up to the tractor dealers around Buffalo and such. Lamb and Webster carries a lot of Kubota compacts and utilities but also carry all of the Case-IH JX and up. They sell a lot of the JX variation of utility tractors as the dairy farms buy them for chore tractors and raking tractors. They keep the Kubota's mainly for the compacts. I have never been to their Woodhull New Holland store to see if they sell any Kubota's or what all they sell.

I still believe the closer the dealer is to the city the more compacts they are going to sell compared to the dealers in the country who will sell more utility and ag tractors and implements.

Robert,
Buffalo Tractor carries a lot of NH 70 HP and up. Not as many TC 30's and 45's but it seems there is more the same size smaller kubotas up to 60 HP. Lamb and Webster seems to carry more Kubota's from small to large plus the real big AG stuff.

What are you guys doing in my backyard? Buffalo Tractor is not the same since Ron retired.

Hey, your the one who doesn't come to breakfast to know who is in the back yard:rolleyes:

Keep an eye on the North East forum for get togethers. We usually have one a year around spring time. Sometimes the guys have another one without me but that is because they are retired and have lots of free time. You are more then welcome to come to breakfast with the rest of us Backyardigains at the next breakfast.

Here in eastern upstate New York, we have quite a few dealers of the big 3, plus MF and C/I. Last year I was looking to get an actual new tractor, because I've been running all vintage tractors on my farm, and I needed at least one tracotr that I could rely on to be operable in the middle of a snow storm. I wanted a tractor that was around 50 hp with a loader and cab. I checked all of the above manufacturers' dealers around here. All things being equal, I would have prefered Deere first and New Holland second, and didn't have much preference after that. I ended up getting a Kubota L 4630. I got by far the best price on the Kubota than any of the others for basically the same tractor, and I'm very happy with the support of my dealer. Of course I'm very happy with the Kubota, but I think I would have been happy with any of these manufacturers. My dealer also sells C/I and MF, but they didn't even want to show me any of the compact versions of those manufacturers.

Interestingly, the Deere and NH dealers around here didn't even want to negotiate on prices, but I feel I got a good deal on my Kubota.

I wish it was lunch, breakfast is a serious event around here. I'll be watching for it. Thanks.

We are an easy going bunch, if lunch will work then we will adapt. Someone will post when they feel like having a get together. We don't really have a set time table for get togethers.

I think Kubota definitely has the edge in CUT sales and marketing. My dealer has tons of smaller tractors on his lot and when I bought mine there was essentially no wait. I test drove it on the lot, bought it, they prepped it, put the loader on and delivered it a few days later.

The NH dealer nearby has some smaller tractors but not a wide selection and at the time (2 years ago) did not seem to be interested in selling me a small, low end tractor and did not have any of the models I was considering on the lot.

The JD dealership was very helpful and willing to talk to me about a small economy tractor and they had one on the lot. But they still had more big machines, UTs and big Ag tractors on the lot than CUTs. I know one of the sales guys there and he admits that they sell more lawnmowers and small tractors than big ag machines.

Seems to me, at least based on local experience, the NH needs to get better at marketing their CUTs. There is clearly a lot of money in that market and I feel certain they already make good quality CUTs.

I suspect JD and NH do most of the serious ag business around here, but again, the real money seems to be in CUTs and SCUTs. They are going to have to learn to play that game.

How much equipment did your John Deere friend sell also? John Deere, Agco and New Holland sell more then just tractors. Heck, most farm implements cost more then a compact. A small square baler will run around $16k to start out, discbines are around the same price. Add in round balers, large square balers, tillage equipment, planting equipment and harvesting equipment and you have a lot of money from the ag side compared to a rather competitive compact segment.

My local NH dealer has a few compacts on the lot all the time but they need to spread their money around. They can't stock 30-40 compacts because they wouldn't have as much money and room for the rest of their tractors and implements that just have the New Holland badge on them. Add in their short line brands and there is only so much money and space for some of these dealers to work with.

I think Kubota has an advantage in compacts because of the fact they have been a major player in this market for so long and have a great reputation. Their dealers tend to be a lot smaller then the big three ag companies and I am not sure about the rest of the US but here you generally find them near the suburbs. In the country here you find JD compacts near the JD dealer and NH compacts near the NH dealers.

Good point. I have no idea how much other stuff these places sell. The NH place does not have a lot of big implements but the JD place sure does. The JD place also has a big shop. Many bays. Their shop may bring in more income than sales for all I know.

All I know is that the last time I talked to the sales guy at JD (this spring), I asked him how sales were and he said 'lots of lawn mowers.'
