No, I wouldn't. If I were still in New Hampsire Id get a NH w/o a second thought. MSRP is way more than the machine is worth. Dont get me wrong its agreat tractor but not that great. Im in WA now and the JD dealer here is excellent in every respect....which doesnt help you at all. If I had to do it again I would do nothing different.

Which location of Chappells are you dealing w/? If Brentwood then I suppose you talked w/ Ted? Hes a pretty good guy and I think will give you as good a deal as you can get locally....which will be pretty competitive w/ mail order.

Have you been to Rosencrantz yet? You should just to compare prices.

Cant recall who I dealt w/. He was older w/ glasses...which probably doesnt narrow it down at all. I didnt have a trade. The only reason I hung in there was b/c the service was SO good. I figured Id like to give them my business. In the end though it was really only green paint I was buying for the premium.

NH guys,

I live in CT (where there is a much lower cost of living -- yeah right!) and can basically count on 14-16% off without specials. If any of you want, I can steer you to a CT dealer that might be able to shake some foundations. You do have the advantage of no sales tax, but list w/none is still more than 16% off and 6% added on. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, I haven't talked with anyone at either dealership yet, so there is no preference. We just stopped by and looked around today so that we wouldn't be disturbed. My wife really like the "blue one" but it doesn't really matter to her which one we get, as long as we only have to buy it once. She doesn't want to hear me say that we need to upgrade in a year or two.

That being said, a 4115 would probably work great but I look like I'm in a clown car when I sit on it. The 4310 or 3120 fit me much better, but I am concerned what it will do to the lawn. I know that if I get either of the two larger frame units or the NH TC29DA I won't have to worry about outgrowing it anytime soon, at least until we get another house...

So, am I on the right track here with regards to the size of the tractor? I just want to make sure that I'm not getting something too big/small for the size yard that I have? I like either the blue or the green, no strong feelings either way, just looking to get a fair/good deal for a good machine.

When I was shopping I thought Id get a 29 for many of the reasons you are enumerating plus some. However, in the end Im glad I went w/ a 24 b/c anything else would have been too big. I have some tight spots that the 29 couldnt manage well. Also the 24 probably does less damage to the grass. If you can you should really attempt to give the 24 and 29 a go in an environment as close to your place as possible. There are very few times that the 24 didnt have enough power for the job at hand and I rarely wish for a tractor thats bigger (and more powerful).

I take it the clown car comment alludes to your height? Im also tall and fit pretty nicely on the 24.

I have a JD455 which is smaller than a CUT; it's a great mowing machine but the FEL is limited, although good for my use for light landscaping.

I'm right next door in Kingston and don't think too highly of any of the local dealers that were mentioned.

I looked at new tractors before buying my 455 and the guy at Rosencrantz didn't seem to care if he sold one or not and wanted full list for a 2210 with FEL & MMM ($ 17K, yikes). I've had good luck with their parts dept and limited use of their service dept (took a tire in one time and they wanted to know if I bought my tractor there!).

Dealt with Chappell in Brentwood for a rotary cutter and they weren't too knowledgeable even thought they are a Woods dealer.

MB Tractor has grown a lot in the last few years, but lost some of the personal touch of the previous owner.

As someone else mentioned, buying a tractor is more like buying a car and you need to play one dealer against the other in order to get a better deal. I was looking this time two years ago and since spring is the busy time, they didn't seem interested in "dealing".

I bought used on eBay! That was my solution to finding a deal. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, I stopped by the green dealer in Plaistow last night on my way home. (I had to break the salesman away from a mean game of solitaire that he had going.) If that session is any indication of the other stores, I'm just not destined to have a green tractor. I was offered a whopping 8% off of list and I started thinking wow, you guys must really like these tractors more than I do.... Then I asked about the price & avail. of a 3120 with a FEL and the guy just about went to tilt. Only 1 in stock w/o loader and no timeframe on when the loader would be there. Then I asked if there was any room on the price to move and his response was to point me to a smaller tractor. --End of rant--

Now, weather permitting, I will be off to look at/test drive comparable blue tractors this weekend. I hope it goes better in round 2.

My cousin and some friends do a lot of farming/baling and have a lot of green tractors, but none from Rosencrantz. They deal with Padula's out of MA. I went to the old Rosencrantz dealership in Londonderry. I think they deal on commision because the salesmen must of told me 30 times to make sure and buy it from him, or if I went back to tell them I was working with xxxx. I was interested in the 41XX series and they didn't have one but he felt it was enough to say that it was just a bit bigger than the 2210.

I ended up buying a TC24 for the price he wanted on a 2210. I also talked to T&T and they were right up there. The worst was the dealer in Gorham NH. If a New Holland interests you, Chappell is pretty decent in Brentwood. I've also heard good things about Scamman.

One last note, I went to Padula's once long after I bought a tractor. They had a lot of stuff, and seemed to do a lot of service work.

I bought my JD4115, 60:MMM, 450 tiller, 54" hydralic blade, with R4s from what think is the best JD dealer in Souther NH, based on price, service, and knowledge.

I bought my 4110 from Rosencrantz at the Londonderry store about 1yr before they moved to the new Derry location. I had shopped at all of the local places Chappell , MB etc. and had written quotes from each place with me when I went. Rosencrantz beat each written quote the machine was delivered on the and time they indicated. Since then I have gotten some parts at the Derry store and the staff are very knowledgeable.

Having said that , I have in the last few weeks been shopping for a new trailer. I went to Rosencrantz and got a quote of $3850 for 16' dual axle with e-brakes on both. Went to MB and was quoted $2200 for the same trailer but different brand. Almost bought it from MB however was told I could not take it today as they did not have the title. I said to them , You own the trailer what do you mean you do not have the title. See ya, went up the street to The Trailer Place about 2 miles further north and pd $2395 for 16' Belmont dual axle e-brakes on both and took it home that day. Very nice people.

Bottom line , shop around do your homework and always have written quotes when going to each dealer
