Am I missing the part where you described exactly the size and thickness of the brush on your property?

Probably! So far I've done the easy part... 1" to 2" trees. Now comes the harder part... I'm not really sure how dense the brush is or how big the trees. It is much denser and much larger than the part that I've already done. Hmm. Well, I can saw all of the trees down this winter and use my buddies stump grinder to take 'em down to more or less level... Mind you, then I'd also have to loan him my tractor sometimes. Not a catastrophy! But when the tractor is away, how do I work???

And, anyway... We're still in negos on the tractor. Sigh.

Here is a pic of the two+ acres I cleared. I know it might not look like that much acreage but it is a long hill with two natural terraces that don't show up in the picture plus I'm about 1/3 of the way up. To get an idea what it looked like before, just look at the pines on either side of the clearing. Mostly about 6" at the base, some larger, but all young and pretty bendy. I worked when the soil was wet. I'd put the bucket about3-4 feet up the tree and drive forward. This would usually push the roots up on the tractor side of the tree. I'd then hook the bucket under the roots and lift while driving forward. If the ground was wet enough and the tree small enough it would come right out. It took more time and effort (and much more of a toll on my tractor) when the trees where bigger or the ground was dryer. But like I said, with enough time and determination you can do it with an CUT and an FEL. Since that picture was taken I've cleaned it all up. Spent days reshaping with the box blade and picking up a lot of rocks. Now, it is nothing like a lawn but I can mow it down to about 3" with my rotary cutter and it looks like a lawn from up on the porch!

I am a guy with no patience at all. I also work 3 jobs. As much as I love working outside on my tractor, I hire out to a guy with a dozer when I need a guy with a dozer. I want something done now, I get it done now. Getting trees uprooted, hills of rough ground smoothed, the guy using a dozer can get it done in hours what might take me days. I use my tractor for jobs suited to my tractor. If I had a backhoe, I might uproot my trees, but I don't. A dozer takes the beating my tractor would take for simlar work and that is a good thing.

Not a dozer!

I've you have ever seen the mulcher machine work, you'll be sold! Environmentally friendly, no debris piles left, no stumps. Find someone locally that does this type of work. Most everybody has a 4 hr min. Try it and I'll bet you end up letting him finish the job.

I think this is what you are talking about. I saw one of these clearing a road right of way, and man is it impressive:

I hear you! But, I had many other "little" jobs for him to do, so I made a compromise and chose a dozer. He needed to move a pile of rotting wood chips (200x200x12) for me, something that would have taken me a solid week. I had a small list of many projects for him to do and waited until it had reached critical level. Please forgive me :D

George, post your pic from out on the lake looking back up the hill. Gives one a much better prespective. I saw it once in your profile but could not find it last week.
