I used to access my place across a east - west road that was nearly 1 mile long. The prevailing wind in the winter is from the north. I would blade my wind rows to the south and start with a 50' wide path. By spring my road was down to 18' wide. If you don't start wide, you will be screwed. Herring boning is only a tempory fix because it increases drifting. Have a look at how they better guys clear oilfield access roads.
