Debris Guard for Mower Deck

I bought a cheap lawn tractor - an MTD 17.5 HP, 42" deck, hydro trans. It has performed great for the last two years. The only real pain is having to clean the front of the mower deck after every mowing. We have sandy soil, and many of the areas we mow with it are just weeds rather than lawn. Even on the highest setting, the front of the deck gets choked up pretty quick with weeds, leaves and sand. Becomes a real problem when getting into the belt and pulley area. Thought it might be a good idea to fabricate some type of deck guard to keep this from happening so often. Anybody ever heard of such a thing, or tried making one?

After each mowing I use air to clean the upper deck also the engine compartment..100psi does the trick.
